Sad Anyone here a US/Canada border Immigration Officer?

The government just screwed me over and I won't be able to make it to The Guvernment for Ultra Spin 9.

My American green card is expired, though I am in the process of renewing it - all I have is a receipt; no I-90. I don't have a passport or another form of proof of status.

My green card and my US Driver's License is all I would need to show when going through the border checkpoints. The US -> Canada checkpoint was always super-easy, but coming back into the US was always much harder. They would always stop us, ask all the passengers questions (how we knew each other, etc...), search our car, etc...

It looks like unless I want to be stuck at the border for a few hours/days/months and cavity-searched, I'm going to miss out on this party .

I've seriously passed through the border several hundred times.

My biggest advice is, dress respectably, and answer all the questions honestly, and don't hesitate in any response. Answer with respect, and be willing. If you are riding with others, same for them. Never give them a hard time. Weeding out illegals that don't fit a hazardous profile is a smaller fish they're after. Bring all possible ID you have, including phone bills, etc. The more you are willing to show, the less they're think you'er hiding something.

Oh... if you show up sketchy on your way, looking like candy-ravers, you're going to secondary.

Don't bother crossing the border- its not worth deportation for a damn party. If its anything like Canada, you need the documentation, not some receipt, or your word that papers are in motion. My fiance had to stay put here over X-mas, while I went on to the US, cuz he was waiting on paperwork. Even I got refused once coming back to Canada, where I've lived for 6 yrs, cuz my paper had expired, and they didn't have record of any renewal. As long as you stay put in your country and paperwork is in motion, you're able to stay. Once you cross the border, you risk throwing the whole application process away.

ITS NOT WORTH IT.

Come for the next party.

Yes, you'll need a passport. With those ^ credentials, you're just asking for trouble....

I have a Canadian citizenship card too, and that with your healthcard, should be OK minimum. Always have your cit card with you, it's minimum. They will ask you where you are born, cuz your passport says that, but not the card. Don't even mention your expired Polish ppt. Don't show your scratched DL, cuz it's a sign of fraud.

NEVER BE NERVOUS. otherwise you're pierdol'd.

if I were you, i'd go to a Ministry of Transportation kiosk in a nearby mall (check for listings) and request a new copy of your drivers license. Bring your old one in to do it. You should have an ID that shows your pic properly.

I agree with Tatgirl and firestarter. I forgot my student visa at home in Canada about 12 year ago when I was going to back to school in vermont. they held me at the american border for the whole day, even after talking to my mom and my school. and this was way before tightened security.

it's not worth it. we always have wicked parties. Be patient.

The border guards are the rudest people I've ever seen in my life. They definitely abuse their authority......talk to you as if you are some piece of shit.

And thank goodness they're around or we'd have more people in the country blowing shit up and in turn having you complain that border patrol wasn't safe and secure enough.

They do what they are paid to do, and they do it well. If you don't give them any trouble, things should be fine. Would you want their job? They have to be alert on every single car they let through.

I've never once had a problem in all the years I've been going back and forth to the US. Not one, single problem, at all.
