Note: Cat sold separately

Now I'm learning how to beatmatch. I can get the two records to the same tempo and can have them match for 3-5 seconds. Then one starts to drift away from the other and I don't know how much pitch, or which record to adjust the pitch of. Is it a matter of millimeters? half an inch adjustment? I will be practicing this more and more.

Very decent decent indeed! Those babies must have cost a ton.

"Galloping" beats from an incoming track is pretty common, I would say. If the incoming record seems to be galloping a little faster, try dimming the pitch of that one a little slower as you're just about to mix it in, and vice versa.

oh yah and some tips on beat matching.. that happens to all of us. unless you have a REALLY trained ear (some of the pros id imagine).. when you beat match a record after 10 or so seconds the match is going to start to drift. this is especially commom when your matching very different beats (not the standard quick clena thump). it's hard to tell whats exactly matched.. if your doing a quick track switch (10secs or less) this is ok.. if you want to make it a nice progressive slow change thatll last like 30 secs.. your gonna need to match up the beats, then just throw em both in your headphones and listen for 15+ secs to see which track is slower or faster. then adjust the pitch i'd say 1/10 of an inch to correct, and repeat. this takes time so if u wanna do a slow change plan ahead.. you won't be able to get the match perfectly at the last second when your record is about to end... atleast i can't.

I'd avoid getting into that habit of listening to both the cue and the live record at the same time through your headphones. It is useful, and easier, but not all mixers have a split cue (which is providing that ability). If you ever get stuck with mixing without a split cue, you'll be screwed as accomplishing what you're trying to do without a split cue is much harder and you need to train your ears much more, the split cue is the easy way out.

i was talking about feeding them both.. ie sending the mixed output to the headphones...

are you referring to the same thing?

Dude, 30 seconds is a short mix! The melody on most tracks doesn't cme in till at least a minute after the beginning of the track, and you don't want to be mixing plain beats which you would be with 30s mixes. You should be aiming to keep it in the mix for at least a minute.
