Mta/lirr/njt ??

i was just wondering how it worked if you live right outside the city in jersey or long island as far as commuting on the train goes... if you're in the city you have your metro pass or whatever, but does the LIRR and nj transit have something like that too?? and if you have to buy say an everlasting lirr card does that work on nyc subways as well or do you need to buy a metro card on top of it??
also how much is a subway pass for like a week, if you can buy them like that?? here its £15.50 for a week, cause i'm a student, which is just short of $30. otherwise its like £22

NJ Transit has monthly passes, but they are tailored towards commuters and cost a few hundred dollars.
LIRR probably has the same kind of thing, but I don't know much about them.
MTA sells monthly ($76), weekly ($24), and daily passes.

LIRR tix are not valid on MTA.

www.mta.info - for MTA & LIRR
www.njtransit.com - for NJ Transit.

hope that helps.

the LIRR pass is about $140 depending on how far out on the island you are. I took the port washington line which basically hit all the large "Queens" areas - woodside, flushing main street, bayside, great neck etc.

if you lived in woodside i wouldn't think a monthly lirr and monthly mta pass is necessary, infact woodside/astoria is close enough to the city just for a metrocard ($76?)

it really depends where you are on LI for the LIRR pass. it can be $200 in some areas. only get a monthly pass if it is worth it and you have to travel at least everyday. if you are only going 2-3 times a week, then get the ten trip tickets.
