i wouldn't buy a gamecube, or any system right now.

PS3 will come soon (december? 2007? soon!)
and anyways, revolution is also coming out soon

i haven't heard of any incredible games that would make gamecube a must buy. smash, sunshine, resident evil 4 are the ones that are real good

The only thing the Revolution has going for it (besides great kiddie games) is the ability to connect online and download games from previous systems like N64, SNES, and yes... even GENESIS games. It's designed for pre-teens... plain and simple.. just like the GameCube. It's not a next-gen console in any way shape or form.

PS3 is currently delayed for 6 months (which is November)... but will probably be delayed again. Could be a smart move should anything go wrong like with the 360's debut. They definitely have a huge market that's waiting patiently... and I think xbox will have a fierce competitor once the they open this flood gate.

Dreamcast was underrated... but Sega always was

Your opinion has very little backing to it, I'm afraid. You're saying that the targeted demographic is pre-teens? As in under 13 years of age? I bet you didn't know that the average age of a gamer that plays a Nintendo console (among others) is between 25 and 27. You also seem to forget that a whole generation of gamers grew up with Mario and the gang of Nintendo-ites. Nostalgia is one of the big selling factors, nowadays. Why do you think backwards compatability was such a huge thing for PS2?

Yeah. I guess you're right, though. The technology that'll be bundled in the console has nothing next gen about it. Do your research, buddy, before you go spouting less-than-informed opinions.

NES, SNES, N64, Hudson and Sega games will all be available via virtual console through their download system.

As for the creator of this topic, if you can wait till the Revolution is released (anytime between the end of Q2 and Q4 of this year), you'll have yourself a GCN, among other consoles (virtually), bundled in.

LOL... well the pre-teen comment was extremely generalized and meant more as a joke rather than fact... I just always found Nintendo leaned towards less mature themes. I understand the older markets also love this. The graphics have never been on par compared to the competitors.

I completely agree that the generation that first discovered Mario and the likes would be life-long fans. Makes perfect sense. I think this concept of playing many historical games is brilliant... and they'll capture a large market simply for this.

While this may be true, there are still plenty of games that have enough depth to them so as to positively affect the often E branded titles.

A very good point. There seems to be 2 huge groups growing amongst the gamers: One who finds that graphics are less than important. It's all about gameplay, storyline, sound and controls to them. The other half of the spectrum seems to belong to the younger generation of gamers who instantly declare that the better the graphics, the better the system, the better the game. I think graphics are integral in next generation consoles HOWEVER I also find that I end up spending more time playing retro titles than newly released ones. The war wages on...

Many people are arguing, nowadays, that Nintendo is slowly killing themselves and that they truly don't know what they're doing. After attending the Nintendo Keynote last week at the GDC, I can safely say that they are the most-sure-of-themselves of the Big Three. The industry shouldn't be saying bye bye to Nintendo yet.

Eh?

Super Smash Brothers Melee?
Metroid Prime?
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker?

I can think of consoles with a worse lineup of games.
