How many of you sample kicks from other productions?

Does anyone do this, i figure it's a good way to get a kick which has been well processed without having to muck around too much.
If yes, what type of music would u recomend for doing this with?
Thanks.

I make my own kicks and layer 2-3 different ones. I have yet to sample a kick from another production

Do you mean you do your kicks by layering other kicks or do you make your own kicks and layer them?

I mean I use kick samples, eq and compress them, resample, layer the kicks, re-eq if needed, compress together and then voila.

Re: How many of you sample kicks from other productions?

The thing is that the kicks you sample have been processed to work with the track they came from and won't necessarily fit the song you want to use them in. Therefore from that perspective it probably isn't any easier than using one from a good sample CD.

That sounds like your kicks can easily get muddied up

Never bothered to. Just way too lazy to sample and edit. Make them from scratch.
