rent - $500 is the absolute cheapest you will find.
Transit is good but doesnt run past 1 at night
lots of homeless
lots of crime in certian areas and amoung certain ethnic groups.
drugs everywhere
asians everywhere

city is full.

go away

Rent it seems is easiest when sharing with someone. It really depends where you want to live but staying in the city limits of Vancouver would probably be ideal. If you are anywhere outside, yes transit is available but it sure sucks in this city. Either you live near downtown or in downtown, and if you live dt, you are looking at 700 and up for rent.

You will definitely like it here better than Toronto if you prefer the air slightly cleaner, less humid and views of the ocean and mountain. I think of all things, finding work may be the hardest.

As for drugs, what are those?

getting a job here isnt that bad really
the better ones take longer to find, but if you're prepared to take on any job right away, you're fine

rent is steep but if you've got a roommate or a steady job, you're ok too.

our clubs close at 3 in vancouver, 2 in the suburbs. lots of top 40 and hip hop, got a few house and prog nights and 3 dedicated trance nights (2 of them are far from downtown, 1 is in downtown).

lots of ballas and pretentious wannabes but also quite a few homeless because of a mild climate.

winters get rained a lot, summers are humid but coming from toronto you'll be fine.

pollution is minimal compared to TO so you can breathe here.

lots of cute girls of all kinds of backgrounds

drugs, anything can be arranged if you know the right people

come to van! its a great city to live in, a tad expensive tho

i just moved from toronto last week or so , although i love toronto, i would stay in toronto, as most of the peeps here sumed it up , a lot of druggies alchoholics, homeless wasted people, the city is quite small compared to toronto, and a little more expensive to buy property here..

but if your in need of change of scenery, a lotta greens and mountains, then youll like it.

if your used to normal people and a big city and reasonble pricings i suggest then you stay in toronto i wouldnt move here, although i personally just like the natural beauty, but other than that if i had choice i would stay in toronto.

haha the drugs and homeless ppl arent that bad.. aslong as you stay away from certain area's you wont really notice a problem at all. I still think vancouver is better then T.O. when it comes to homeless ppl... its just that the homeless ppl are more concentrated in certain areas of the city here.

drugs arent really a problem unless you frequent the downtown east side or think that weed is bad. sure there are drugs at parties but which parts of the world dont have drugs at parties?

we're not abnormal, we're different and there's lots of us

when i went to TO last year, i think the only thing that i didnt really like was the air, you notice the difference when you step out of the airplane and i kept getting disoriented cause there were no mountains so i had no idea what direction was what hehehe

And 50% of that 90% probably came here on a boat or in a freight container.

dude its ok to say there are alot of asians, but be tactful! I was referring to the large amount of people who move here from eastern europe, asia, south asia, the us, south america, and especially eastern canada. We even are starting to get quite a few black people. Hands up on this board those people whose parents were born here, or whos grandparents were born here? My grandfather was born in UK in 1908 and moved here in 1916, so you could say my family is sorta old-school. But most people arent and i bet you arent either.
