"You could also ad a Frequency Analyzer to your tempate track, to get a feeling on how the freq. works in a track."
Excellent suggestion!
I think looking at and analyzing frequencies is a great way to balance / fine tune a mix more proficiently. From what I have seen on various threads so far, alot of producers produce a good mix, but the mix of frequency is just all over the place...
(I run into this problem aswell most of the time), but I have alot of faith in experimenting, so when You produce a good mix You could analyze the frequency and learn how to tune the eq by actually listening to a professional mix perhaps, or research alot on forums...
And once You understand it a little better, create a template for each mix before You start (but remember every mix will sound different, because sounds have different characteristics) and more often than not will end up needing different adjustments from the last.
I think to eventually become serious, You will almost definitely need some accurate studio monitors. I have quite alot of knowledge on Producing without monitors, and from what I have heard and learnt, the mix ends up sounding different on every sound system
Where as tracks You hear EQ'd / Mastered on proper monitors sounds much more accurate and well defined. I plan to get some monitors soon hopefully
