So here's the deal. I'm a member of a forum that specializes on Counter-Strike and e-games. I'm not a fan of computer games, I'm just a member because it's a nice little afternoon-time-killing.
Anyways. There is a problem with 'DJs' on that forum. You know, the guys who mix the same five very commercial tunes together in Soundforge into a 10 min long mix and calls themselves DJ's because of it. I mean, this shit ain't even beatmatched, shit it's not even cutmixed!
What to do about them? Should you direct them down the path of learning the trade, ie internet guides etc, or just ignore them? There are so many of them too, I'm thinking about starting a tread in there with a guide to DJ'ing.
You know what kind of guys I'm talking about. And don't pretend you're not disturbed by them.
btw. I've been dreaming about visiting a club where Steve Angello plays. Also had a dream a couple weeks ago where he visited my school. What does that mean? :S
I have to admit it anoyys the crap out of me when people go and download pirated versions of traktor or get virtual dj. Try use the autobeatmatch and still cant even make a sensible mix (this is not even counting the fact that they are trying to mix the worst dance/cheese trance known to man kind) and they call themselfs djs. Then when some find out i am a bedroom dj they have the balls to act asif i dont know what im talking about. They are like "pfft...ow yea? what do you use?" I tell them i have technics 1200s and then they ask "haha whats that?"
I guess its kinda funny because these people may actualy have some kind of brain damadge they just dont know about...
They also dont have any problem with playing the worst quality downloaded from kazaa mp3s possible...

meh, just ignore them. Its not as if they are any sort of competition for you are they?
Get together a decent promo mix and when they post their shite post your mix. Don't make a comment about theirs, just say "hey, check out mine too".
A guy a friend was seeing supposedly did "a bit of djing", and she bought along a cd he put together for a bbq we were orgainising at uni. After having it playt for about 15 mins (it was similar to what you guys describe, I call it radio fades, no beatmatching just fade one out and the other in) and her telling me it was this guy she asked me what did I think - "I don't rate it at all, sorry". She knew it was the truth cos she knows I know what i'm talking about.

Ignore those who call themselves DJ even when its very obvious they don't have any skill. Not just a slight beatmatching error, but major, 'omg-awesome-mix-coz-fader-is-over-there-now' kinda stuff.
But to those that are genuinely interested in Djing, as in, people that don't just make grand claims about their skill....they should be enlightened.
Gotta start getting people with the right attitude i spose, is what im getting at.

So, in other words, it bothers you to see other people enjoying themselves?

You got a really fair point there.
Trance Nutter: Yeah, I what you're talking about radio fades ;P It's the funniest wannabe-DJ-technique ;P What are they thinking really?
But the "Hey, check out my mix too" thing never really helps. The answers most likely are: "I didn't like it, that was too long. Try making it to 7 mins and it will be better. Trust me". Wtf?
