laptop production/djing (specs advice)

Hello, I'm about to buy a laptop and it's main purpose is for producing on the road, can people please give me advise on what I need? i was looking at getting about 512mb ram, 60gig hd and a decent enough processor. I have an external usb soundcard.
My main use will be running reason with cubase also possible albeton live 5, I'm told go for a make like acer, sony, dell, toshiba.

the usb soundcard i have has 4 phono inputs and 4 outputs (2 decks left and right channels in and out if wanted) which is perfect for traktor or something but maybe not with albeton? I've not used it yet. So not sure if i need a laptop with a good soundcard built in?

any advice greatly appreciated, budget isn't huge.
thanks in advance guys

It all comes down to how much you want to spend and sort of what brand you want.
Dell is a nono, although their high end ($3000) doesnt seem so bad.
Asus is probably the most reliable and most expensive.
How much are you going to spend and do u want a graphics card?

i bought my laptop 2 years ago, spend about 1000 euros for my acer travelmate 240 (celeron 2.4 ghz, 786 mb ram, pcmcia echo indigo soundcard) and i still produce all my music with this one.

this is pretty minimal and lacks of power most times i produce but if you adopt a smart way of working, it works fine . at least skills and experience are more important than expensive equipment.

try to get the best cpu and ram you can effort and save money on graphic and hd (if you dont use samples often).

i spoke to a few people today who work in I.T. and they say get a PC not a Mac as you will get more power for your money, but i speak to a few producers and they say get a Mac.. why is the Mac favoured over the PC Laptops? is there really much difference? the software would be the same.
