It seems the audio cable from my monitor to the back of my tower creates an audible (and ridiculously annoying) buzzing sound. I take the cable out the back of my tower and it goes away, until I touch it against something metal, or especially against my body.

Any ideas how to tackle this problem?

I'd say take some electrical tape and wrap the part that's touching the metal/tower. If that doesn't work...try a good old-fashioned pillow. :P

try plugging the speaker into another source of audio (cd player, mp3 player, whatever) and see if it's still buzzing. If it isn't, you probably have PCI Interference on your audio card (assuming your setting are all correct and nothing is fixing it). Try switching it to a different PCI slot on your computer and see if it fixes it, if not, try another audio card.

Monitor speaker? Sounds like you have a ground loop...Dont remove the earth on the power supply to solve it because it will more than likely kill you. Theres an SOS guide on the net that tells you how to get rid of them.

You can use balanced cable runs or a DI box to break the loop.

Well, it did say

I don't think tape will work, it buzzes on any contact doesn't matter where abouts. As for a pillow...

I think Derivative may have nailed it, although I have no idea what the cable runs or DI boxes are I'll just check SOS...

Also, buy better cables. Quality cables are *vital*, else you just wasted X amount of dollars on monitors and sound cards. =P

If possible, try not to have ANY of your audio cables touching anything else, especially power cables. Having a power cable running parallel and touch an audio cable will add a buzz and/or hum to the audio signal that's running through the audio cable. If they really do have to cross paths, having them perpendicular to each other won't cause any buzz.

Well, if I'm being honest, I didn't spend anything. My mum brought me a flatscreen monitor back from work, and I have to use the built in monitor speakers until I get new ones.

Well, I think it's fixed. I think it was the fact it was running parallel to the power cable. I just moved it out of the way and all the remains is a buzz that's 90% less.
