Reminds me of when they introduced the HIV positive muppet in Sesame Street. I suppose it was only a matter of time before something like what they did with Batwoman.

Social advances are bound to happen I suppose. Eventually we'll all get over each other and stories like this won't make the news anymore. They'll just be normal. I imagine responses was the same years ago when they introduced the first "ethnic" comic book protagonists.

Oh, that's soooo not their motivation. They aren't trying to appeal to lesbians or even social advocates. They're trying to appeal to the guys who are 40, collect comic books and jerk off to lesbian porn all day.

Have you seen that episode of Entourage where they go to the comic convention and that internet reviewer argues with Vince, so they send Jessie Jane, Devon, and Teagan Presley to his room with strap ons to perform a show to "buy" his positive review of the new Aquaman movie? That guy is the prime example of who lesbian Batwoman is for.

Well if I look at it that way it seems kinda lame. I didn't think about it along those lines because the comic doesn't really appeal to me more just because they made her a lesbian. It's a freaking comic book character for Christs sake! Sucks if they're doing it for shock value. Again, hopefully one day they won't be able to do things like this for shock because it won't be shocking or special in any way to anyone. I'm pretty much indifferent, but I guess that's because I didn't even know that a Batwoman character ever existed before this post. I was more of a Marvel Comics guy growing up.


Speaking of which, I believe Marvel also made a female HIV positive character. It's not bad enough that she's a mutant or whatever. Noooo, she has to be a mutant with AIDS lol. She has to take meds and everything. Jeez.

Seriously though, DC has introduced a lot racier concepts than just lesbianism. I'm specifically referring to their subsidiary, Vertigo Comics, with it's Preacher, Hellblazer, Sandman, among others. I mean, if I recall correctly there was even an issue of Swamp Thing (written by Alan Moore... no suprise) where Swamp Thing had sex with a human woman... the issue is jokingly referred to as the 'vegetable sex' issue.
