Visiting French Altantic Coast

Hi Everybody!(Salut et Bonjour!)
I'm touring down the atlantic coast from 26. of June to the 15. of July and of course I'm interested to know if there are any good clubs(techno/house) to go to?
Hope someone can help me out with some information(googled already = just bullsh*t).

Thanks in advance!
-Tilo

well... Difficult to give an answer without knowing which cities you are going to visit. French Atlantic coast is quite large! Do you have an idea?

Well, nothing is really planned but something like:
Nantes, Bordeaux, Arcachon, Biarritz...

ok, as far as I know, you can find nice bars and clubs (house & techno) in Bordeaux.

More info on that website: http://france.tilllate.com/

For the other cities, I don't know. Maybe some other TA FRs will be able to help you!

Hope you will enjoy!

Thx a lot! Bordeaux seems to have a strong house scene.

Btw. Anvers is a nice city, I lived in Brussels for 4 years and visited Anvers quite a lot of times.(Antwerp is Burning...yeah!!!)

You want to visit La Rochelle as well.

One of the nicest cities on the atlantic coast.

But in regards to the whole clubbing scene the capital ( Paris ) is always a better bet and cities like Lyon Montpellier and Marseilles among others.

Here is an idea of places to go to:
If you want to go as high up as Bretagne ( Brittany ) Brest Quimper or Lorient.
Nantes which is mostly interesting for a nice downtown, sorry I don't know that much about the city.

La Rochelle with what is said to be one of the biggest leisure ports of Europe, it has a real nice old port as well and is just plain beautiful. Packed with tourists from everywhere. I also recommend the Aquarium http://www.aquarium-larochelle.com/...h/index.php?m=1 .

Rochefort 30 minutes from la Rochelle has some very nice ship yards that were used in the 1600 or so.
It has a huge museum called la Corderie Royale were they used to make ropes. There's also the house of Pierre Loti and various maritime things. It isn't a real famous city but if you're interested in that kind of stuff you should go there.

There's also the Ile de Re right outside la Rochelle ( bridge crossing costs around 20 euros in the summer I think ) and Ile d'Oleron 45 minutes to an hour south real close to Rochefort ( Oleron is more authentic and less touristy but still very touristy ). I also very highly recommend Ile d'Aix which you would have to go by ferry
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%8Ele_d%27Aix . Ile d'Aix has a lot of vauban structures and is one of the places that has still somewhat remainded little touched by crazy tourism.
The area is full of Vauban structures.

From there you could maybe go inland to Cognac or Saintes but not much to see there. But they do have numbers of Romain constructions and things of the like.

Then comes Bordeaux.
Too much to say about the city. It is really big but also very dirty.
This will be one of the biggest cities you will come across going down the coast.
I am not going to start talking about Bordeaux as there is so much over there.

You could also see Arcachon which isn't far.

From there it's all the rest of the coast full of big wave beaches and stuff, Biscarosse, Hossegor, Bayonne ( which makes great ham ) Biarritz.

If you have time to fit it in I would also recommend going to the Basque region. If you want it to be calm avoid the festival and holiday periods down there as they are crazy and it's a bit overwhelming for outsiders ( and they can be a bit hostile to outsiders during the times of pride .... so putting a Basque flag region sticker on your vehicule is highly recommended for it's own safety ).

Have a blast! It's sounds like a wonderful idea for a trip. I have visited all these places but never in one straight shot.

Good post JDat, but i will add some things about Nantes which is as big as Bordeaux. Those two towns are the biggest of the Atlantic coast.

Clubbing Scene in Nantes is not really awesome, but i can recommend the Quai West which has some really nice house party sometimes

Also near Nantes you have the city called La Baule with the biggest beach of Europe. I know that in this city there is a really good club where Joachim Garraud play often, it's called La Grange (i know that Joachim Garraud will play there on the 23rd July)

Wow! Thank you for the information!(especially thanks to jdat for his huge post)
Really look forward to see these places(I hope there are not to many tourists around at that time).
Has anyone of you got experience with the camp ground around there?

Just a few addings...

If you're going to Bordeaux check the programmation of this club :
Le 4 Sans

And if you go to the south, and so, near from Spain, you have plenty of clubs that play trance, prog, bumping, house...
Particularly see this club which have already programmed Armin, MarcoV, Chris Liebing... There -> Txitxarro

And last but not least, in an other way of entertainment, don't miss this (in Spain - Basque country) -> Pamplona - San Fermin 2006

And no, Basque are not hostile! They are just invaded by millions of tourists... Be cool with them and try to know them, they will be cool with you and they'll show you their magnificient country!

OK didn't you read what I typed?
I said they could be hostile during festival and national holiday periods where there's a big sense of Basque pride that can be a bit overwhelming for outsiders.
At least that's how I felt it to be different when I've been there during regular times and times where EVERYONE had a red scarf and you were looked at cross eyed for not having one cause it was the big festivals.

You're right with that.
That was only the word "hostile" that sounds for me a bit too much. But maybe that's what you've felt...
And that's true that you HAVE to wear red scarf and white shirt during those periods like everybody in the place ...

But if you don't, you can always have good time too
