Could someone help me out with this query please??


If I record my vinyl onto cd, do I have to do anything other than make sure the levels aint to high?

I'm not bothered about compressed format's or any of that malarky!

I just want to have 2 or 3 songs per cd that sound as sharp as my vinyl would in a club.

i would guess you're fine then... i guess you could "clean them up" with a plug in to get rid of pops or anything like that... but rip to wav, then throw on a CD should be fine.

i kinda like mild pop's and hisses with ripping vinyl onto cd...has that vinyl sound...if that makes sense...

id just get the levels right if you ask me. dont play with the sound with plugins. you ll end up removing vital information in the sound. keep the pops and crackles!!

Even if you dont experiment removing noise you should still apply the dithering because it's a 24 bit recording you turned into a 16 bit. You changed the word lenth so apply dithering.

Like when I rip my vinyl to 16 bit digital (cd) and play it back it does not sound like my record.
But once I call up the ultramaximizer and requantize everything you can hear an amazing difference on the sound quality. Don't take my word for it. See for yourself.
I would not fuck with the output. It goes on vinyl as loud as they can possibly get it to cover up the hiss.

Rip the tune at 24 (if you can)
Call up the l1-ultramaximizer choose no limiting 16bit ultra.
Done.(That is if you dont want to fix the timing)

Edit : also with the x hum call the dc offset and hi-pass at 30hz. That should get rid of the rumble. I was sceptic about doing this but I tried it after I read it in ''computer music''
They where right. Everything sounds much better & punchier.

Great! I just ripped half of my vinyl in 16bit. Does that mean I have to start again doing it at 24?

Not Really. Unless you have hardware and software that supports 24bit (For ex a 24 bit souncard) it wont make much of a difference.
If you do however have software that supports 24 bit then yes I suggest you do so.
I just checked for you and audacity does have 24 bit option.
It also supports the vst plug-ins I am talking about on the thread. Try it.What soundcard are you using?


If you don't feel like reripping everything just load the files on to audacity download the L-1 ultramaximizer demo from the waves website and bounce everything.

I knew that it had 24bit option before i started ripping it all, but I knew that CD quality is 16bit so i changed it to that. I am using the griffin iMic, to connect my mixer to my mac via USB, it acts as an external soundcard. SO let m get this straight, you say rip it at 24, then what change it to 16bit to put on the CD?
