Basic CDJ related questions.

A while since I posted here, but I just decided to buy my cdj today (cdj800 mk2)

Yeah!!

I searched but everytime it comes up with "No match found" even though I know this question has been asked.

Since I will be incorporating cds into my mixes now, I was wondering what sound quality is good (192 kb etc) and also if I download an mp3 should I convert it to wav or wma? Or should I just find an orignal wma/wav format.

Note however: that most of my music will be in vinyl, I'll just throw in a cd here and there...

Surpised you couldnt find a thread...
Here is one I quickly uncovered (mp3 quality thread)

To answer question quickly. If you plan to play in a club your best bet is to get 320kb mp3 or Wav and avoid anything lower. If you have a song that is on a low sample rate 128kb and you convert it to 320 or wav its not going to make it better quality because you cant add what is not there.
The quality of a recording/song/watever can only be as high as it was when it was at its lowest.
Get the highest quality you can and thats it.

Thanks I appreciate the help. (My browser is having problems..anything I search for it doesn't come up)

On more question though. I understood what you said, but is 320 kb mp3 or 320 kb wav better?

I'm assuming wav because it would be a larger file thus more quality? Not sure...

In essnce I want to know before I go ahead, whether I should but wav and mp3's on one cd..or make sure they are all WAV or all MP3.

I dont think wav is 320kb its uncompressed (well for this sake it is)
So wav = uncompressed and mp3 320kb = compressed.
Wav is better but will take up alot more room considering on most systems the difference is not noticable.

There's no bitrate for wav files. The standard of quality is 16bit @ a sample rate of 44100hz. The difference between a 320kbps mp3 and a wav file of this format is minimal, and will only be noticed by very few people and on high end sound systems. Above that wav format, the difference is rarely noticed by humans.

Personally I just use mp3s at 320. Much more 'flexible' as a format.

Do I understand correctly then that:

wav = mp3 320 kb (except WAV is SLIGHTLY better)

But if you're only putting 10-15 tracks on one cd, wouldn't it be better to find wavs (because your saying they take up more space) so they'd fill the cd?

Where did you get wav = 320kb?
Wav is better but the difference is only miniscule, wav takes up alot more room because it is not like mp3 in terms of mp3 is compressed.
Go with mp3 because if you dont already understand the technicalities i doubt you will be the kind of person who knows the difference.

I am relating them in order of quality as in if I played a wav it would be almost the same as (or =) to a 320 kb mp3

So if you are saying go with mp3's...then how much tracks do you put on a single cd then?

Some people fill the cd some put one track per cd some put around 10-20. Its up to you. There are threads on it but its a matter of prefrence. There is no need to fill cds.
