How do you do it?
I am originally from a small town in the states called Fort Payne, Alabama. I like to think im fairly lucky because i came upon music and computers around the same time when the internet was small. I remember when mp3's at 2mb's were absolutely huge. And i also remember hearing my first few electronic songs by downloading mp3's. Leftfield sticks out in my mind for some reason, but I can't honestly say when it was that i started listening to electronic music. I would guess it was around 1998. I had no idea there were different genres within "techno" back then. I just called it all techno like most people.
The state of Alabama has a very small electronica scene. I've introduced my favorite genre to many of my friends and to this day i don't think any of them can appreciate it more than I. I don't think anyone in the world can appreciate it more than i do. I moved to Birmingham, alabama for college and was hoping the music scene would be flourishing. But it wasn't. There were a few small events, mostly DnB, which i settled for.
When i left Birmingham, i realized that im probably never going to live in a place that loves the music as much as i do. I joined the military to help pay for college and they asked where i wanted to be stationed so i immediately put every european base that i could. Based on teh fact that i knew thats where the music was. I didn't get what i wanted though. Right now i'm stationed in Japan, near tokyo. I havn't heard much about the electronic scene over here but i know its here. I just have to find it.
I just want to know, how do all of you from small towns do it? I've done this for years trying to get to a place that was more for music than anythign, but it seems like i can't get there. The only place i can listen to the music is from my computer. It's rare that i can go to a club and listen to a dj play the music for my enjoyment. I'm still young, but im afraid i'm going to end up where i don't want to be... thats where the music isn't at.
