Just wanted to let you know about some new software I created called Loop-X. It allows you to scan your favourite .mp3s and cut out perfect sample loops easily and efficiently. It's the perfect tool for those who use loop-based sequencers like Ableton Live! or Acid and want to build up their sample library quickly. You simply scan any song you want - Loop-X determines the BPM, finds a loop, and plays it back to you ready for saving. You don't have to waste lots of time manually auditioning and cutting out loops with an editor like SoundForge. This is a huge time-saving tool and allows you to spend more time making music and less time working on boring/tedious loop cutting.

Attention Jungle/IDM/Drum & Bass/cutup producers: There's a bonus addon called the "Loop Mangler" ( you get Loop Mangler free with both the demo and full version of Loop-X ), which lets you mash up beats in really cool ways. It slices your loop into 4,8,or 16 slices, and allows you to re-arrange the playback of those slices as you see fit.. plus you can reverse any slice, or with a cool feature called "loopdipping", you can replace any slice with a slice from a loop in your sample library. All the loop slices are CROSSFADED, making transitions smooth between slices. You can build very complex mosaics of sound or complex cutup patterns. It's perfect software for the experimentalists among you!

Uh, ok. Now why would I want to steal loops from MP3s?

I guess it's a cool program, but I don't see the usefulness if you're into serious and not to mention legal producing.

Well, i i where to rip a loop from a mp3, which i would never do, i can just do that in my Ableton!

Dont see the point in having a second program for that, plus i have Wavelab!

Im not sold, sorry!

Y'know, you may not feel a desire to sample for your music, but don't knock it. If it weren't for sampling, I doubt any of us would be here on this forum today, it has been that instrumental in the formation of the edm scene. It is so entrenched in the scene that it has become an art form in itself. People stretch, reverse, reorder and generally destroy loops in order to creatively reincorporate them into the song without stylebiting. It's not the uncreative hackjob you take it to be.

That said, why should I need a program for the specific purpose of singling out a loop when I already have acid/abelton? That's the only question I have. I might get the demo, but only for that loop mangler thing that comes free.

Because you already need a valid loop to begin with before you use loops in Ableton. Someone has to have cut the loop beforehand, unless you manually set start and endpoints in the clip editor, which is hardly an elegant solution. Yes, you can just throw in any old sample and Ableton will loop it, but if it is a rhythm loop, it has to start "on the beat", be the correct number of beats, and be the correct length, or else it won't mix in properly to your production.

Being a producer myself, I found I was spending far too much time on mundane / boring cutting with SoundForge and realized there should be a tool to streamline this process. This is definitely a niche tool and is not for everyone... and that's why there's a demo version


Oh, and by the way, I DO NOT advocate stealing. But I DO advocate sampling material and processing so that the finished product sounds nothing like the source sound... and you can use it for remixing when you don't have the original track sources.

Then start with "Hello, World." That one may be just as useless, but at least it's endlessly entertaining.

Seriously though, I recognize the difficulty in creating a program of any difficulty above the first year level. But that doesn't mean that the hardest work of any programmer can't create something that I have no use for. Just because he's starting out doesn't mean he should be babied and cooed over. If it weren't for criticism, nothing in the world would get better. So While I'm encouraging him to make programs that are more useful (like that loopmangler plugin--in fact, I could think of some ways it might be made better, but maybe later), you're telling him inutile programs are perfectly acceptable, and essentially to keep on making pointless garbage. Who's being more useful to him in the long run?

And yes, when he makes a program as big as Ableton, I will appreciate that. But he's not doing that yet.

So put that bleeding heart away, and save it for someone who actually has ill-will towards someone.
