Going mixerless - need advise.
I hit a budgetary pothole and need to patch it at expense of dumping some of my gear. I currently have a Yamaha 01v96 v2 mixer but never had it working as DAW controll surface. I figure between a promise of Virus TI being able to act as a control surface and even stand-alone surfaces now being dirt-cheap, I'm wondering if I should dump my mixer.
I never used it to full extent - e.g. built in effects, optical interfaces, multiple busses routing, etc. So, I figure aside from giving me "on the fly" volume control, it's been largely underused.
What do you think - should I keep it or will I be able to get by without it?
I only have 5 or 6 pieces of kit that can currently be plugged in directly into my HD interface or if I run out of jacks, patched through patchbay.
So, any advise?

And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true. |
