Deep-fried Coca-Cola.... :thesouth:

Newest Fair Food: Deep-Fried Coca-Cola
POSTED: 12:35 pm EDT September 5, 2006

DALLAS -- There are fried Twinkies and even fried candy bars. Now, vendor Abel Gonzales Jr. has come up with a new artery-clogging concoction for the State Fair of Texas London said she came up with the fried pralines idea after buying pralines at the fair last year. She plans to sell the pralines alongside fried marshmallows.. It's fried Coke. Gonzales deep-fries Coca-Cola-flavored batter. He then drizzles Coke fountain syrup on it. The fried Coke is topped with whipped cream, cinnamon sugar and a cherry. Gonzales said the fried Coke came about just from thinking aloud.Gonzales' diet-buster wins the creativity honor at the second-annual Big Tex Choice Awards Contest. Judges for the contest chose Shirley London's Fried Praline Perfection as the tastiest fried delicacy. The two won out among 26 entries such as fried macaroni and cheese and a deep-fried cosmopolitan. Gonzales achieved notoriety in 2005 with the fried peanut butter, banana, and jelly sandwich -- selling an estimated 25,000 of the treats, according to the fair's Web site. The site said London got media attention in 2004 with her fried marshmallows on-a-stick.This is the same state fair that brought about the corn dog. The Web site said Neil and Carl Fletcher conjured up a sweetened corn-battered wiener on-a-stick and sold it for 15 cents during the 1942 State Fair of Texas. The fair begins Sept. 29.

Weird stuff in the Midwest - no surprise to me. However, I can't say Florida is any better.

Thanks, hun...

Yeah, I'm definitely moving back to NY. I'll break my lease, if I have to. I'm getting sick of tossing dice, with these hurricanes.

Sounds like this fried Coca-Cola concoction might not be so bad after all. If they invented the corn dog, then that raises their credibility in my eyes.

I'd like to try it, along with the fried peanut butter, banana and jelly soundwich. Could be the most delicious treat ever. You can't knock it till you've tried it.

yes i can... deep fried food is the worst thing you can possibly eat. zero nutritional value, clogs your arteries, makes you fat and lethargic and it's food preparation for poor people. i eat deep fried chicken a couple times a year and draw the line at that. fried twinkies, oreos, ice cream, candy and coke? i don't even eat that garbage unfried!

Texas is included in the Midwest?

I don't think it is because the midwest I know has a totally different attitude than down there, but who am I to say what is where and how to classifly location.
