Prog Track in the works, need advice

Can anyone offer some constructive criticism on the following track? It's just a rough mix.

Shifter - Prog Track

I wanted to say try harder at first... But while listening this quite catched my ears to be honest. The electro sounds are awesome...

The beat is too simple and chunky for me. The blip/lfo effect too...
The electro sounding bassline and almost 80s like stab chord works awesome. The portamento synth in the break is cool, the filter works as well, but the climax stinks honestly. The paddy stab sounds (which later on sound like bandpassed supersaws) thing totally ruins it for me. It takes out the drive and feel of the previous parts.

I would personally restart and build upon the electro theme you've got going in the start. Electro is being hyped a lot right now, so if you're able to finish this one asap you could hop on for the ride .

I'd suggest making more complex beats and a bit larger worked out electro theme based on what you have now. You do have something here

I like , but I do not see how it is prog? More kind of retro / house to me?

Build up is a bit too hold back , you could maybe add more percs in variations there? Compositon is not interseting enough: I lose attention after 1.5 minute or so...

I like the analogue type sounds and how they fit together musically. It needs compression IMO, and lots of it.
Also: it sounds too clean maybe , it needs some dirt and warmth? Use a saturator and/or valve amp?

Bassline and motifs are quite funky, but the track overall misses a hook: the hook after break is weak IMO. Kinda like a stacatto , agressive analogue hook.

All in all a nice, refreshing tune. Add some more pump and dirt, an agressive hook and you're rocking!

cheers,

BB

feedback from the Dutch guys i guess

Story teller is right tho, electro style is they way to go with this. Try using some more sampled beats, layering loops and processing them. Give it a bit of a Basement Jaxx feel. But be unique !

I grew up in the 80's and this tune reminds me of going back in time, really nice funky tune that would have gone down great in the 80's.
I really like it and really love the synths Would love the tune to make my own crazy version.
Anyways what did you use to make the tune with and what synths etc?
Really love this tune as it gets further on, really nice work.

i like it, should drop a sample of michael jackson - thriller here and there on it.

Its not prog though, you can make it more electro would be cool or keep it house.

That filtered saw stab in the climax, while giving the song an interesting character, doesn't quite fit with your theme, IMO. I'd take out the atmosphere, and give it a bit more of a gated feel by giving some hits little gated grace notes, and get creative with them.

Also, your percussions could be a bit more dynamic. Give me some weird syncopated hat accents. That's what makes music danceable.

Other than that, you have a truely banging electro track here. Keep it up.

One other comment, that laser effect in the first mini-break is sooo cheesy, like too cheesy for electro. At least try to make it sound like you made it yourself.
