synth programmers - z3ta+ programming question

ok a question for the synth programmers:

http://download.yousendit.com/5A32E34662C4C386

in the sample above, how do i get that sweeping sound? i dunno what the correct term for it is, but i think it's the filter opening and closing at a slow rate.

the patch in the example is from z3ta+, patch 12, i tried studying it and copying some of the parameters, but i couldnt get the results i wanted.

hopefully the question is clear and the sample is enough. all help appreciated.

Try this:

put the filter cutoff very close to off (bottom)
assign the filter controll to Envelop 2 or any other that are free
put a slow attack, medium decay, fast sustain, and no release on it,

see if that works

in general it can be helpful to re-engineer the patches you like. the following method should work for all (soft-) synths:

1. open a copy of the desired synth with the desired patch

2. open another instance of that synth and reset it completely (i.e. select the init patch)

3. then start with the oscillators and make all the adjustments you can find in the desired patch, continue until you made a complete copy of that patch, including the modulation-matrix, filters, envelopes and so on.

4. while you make the adjustments listen to the differences it makes to the sound and try to understand them.

this way you can learn a lot about synthesis and your synths and it will help you to make better patches on your own.

regards - martin

ok another question.

how do i go about assigning the velocity to control the filter cutoff??

i set the control as keyboard >velocity and then the range i set to full or whatever. i set the destination to filter1 cutoff. shouldnt this do the trick?

basically what i want to happen is...when the velocity is zero the cutoff is completley closed, and when the velocity is max, the cutoff is all the way open, and everything inbettween of course.

so what am i doing wrong?

try to set the first input field (the left one) to "on" and the fourth (the one where the modulations are set) to "velocity". and close the filter of course
