Hey guys,

right now I'm having a 2x 19" Proview monitor setup.

I was wondering if producing on one screen (instead of two) is more comfortable for producing; say if you got one 30" Widescreen (one of those Dell's for example)?

I know one screen is of course more comfortable for watching videos or playing games (you won't have to switch one off or something); though what would it make for music production?

Or does it really just depend on taste?

I was thinking about that as well. I love my dual screens, but if I had one wide (REALLY wide) screen, it would probably be less hassle and very nice. How expensive are those 30" ones though?

Remember that it's not only about the size but rather about the maximum possible resolution on the screen. And you will not get as high a resolution on one widescreen as you will get from 2 "normal" screens.
The 30 inch widescreens available from Apple (and others) are very pricey. You can buy at least 3 normal 20 inch screens for the same money.

Also remember that you get much more "picture" from normal screens than from widescreens. You will almost need a 24 inch widescreen to get the same "amount of picture" as one 19 inch "normal" screen.

Having one large widescreen definately looks cool, but when it comes to producing I would prefer having 2 (or 3) normal screens (21 inch).

I've always preferred the idea of multi-monitor setups because of the way Windows can maximise a program/window into whatever screen you want. So it's like having a screen for each program.

What would be mental would be to have a multi-30" screen setup.

okay maybe not to humongous widescreens but moderate ones.
I'm getting two 20" widescreens soon for a mad little setup

I went from 2x15" to 20" widescreen and had no problems adjusting "back to normal". I actually like the widescreen monitor better than the 2 smaller monitors, though, I do plan on getting a 2nd widescreen and just be a badass when I sit at my computer.

Back to the topic. Before I would have my sequencer window on the left monitor and all my mixers and plugins on the left, but now i just stretch my mixer so that it covers the whole screen. Though the dual screen is convenient... why do you really need to see your fader levels when you're arranging/writing?

as the saying goes 2 is better than 1..i use 2 screens and find them very good.

I went from 2x19 to 1 x 24 inch dell wide screen, I do like it and find myself having enough space to work comfortably. I learned to use cubase window sets. I switch between arrangement, mixer and plugins windows with one keystroke. ( sometimes i have the mixer under the arrangement window). I don't miss duall screens that much, but honestly, once the prices come down a bit, I think I will add another 24 inch to the setup. There is just never enough space when it comes to sequencers So many plugins/vsti to look at.

Yep. A widescreen monitor will give you a greater horizontal resolution so you can fit more in the sides (or if your gfx card supports it, turn it 90 degrees for a tall screen!)

i'd go for 1 widescreen instead of 2 or 3 screens. i don't think i'd look at the other screen that much cuz i'll be focusing more on the main screen. of coz if u have the $, then go for the multi screen setup. i'll just stick with one high res widescreen. with high res, you can have more space in the screen and may be able to fit all the windows in that one single screen. probably just a lil hassle to switch on and off some of the vsti's. might as well spend the additional screen's money for another piece of gear
