Ok I know a bunch of you were interested in this fight on Saturday given the comments from the Tito vs Shamrock fight thread....
Here are the spoiler results for the two main title fights for those of you that didn't catch it.
I'm happy to say I called Sherk out musculing Florian and taking him down a lot... in the second fight I was betting on Franklin but was expecting a war till the final round with rounds going back and forth... looks like it was a bit more of a decisive win (for Silvia than I thought it would be.

Fight #8:
-Sean Sherk vs. Kenny Florian (UFC LW Title)

Round 1: Sherk, 10-9. Sherk immediately took him down to start the round, sat in Florian's guard most of the round doing pitty-patter ground and pound as Florian kept adjusting his hips and squirming around. Eventually, from underneath Florian locks a tight guillotine, despite Sherk's arm being in, and looked to be dangerous. Sherk got out, and at one point almost had a triangle and an armbar on Florian, until Florian scrambled out and almost took Sherk down, but Sherk out-muscled him and finished pounding away on top of Florian.

Round 2: Round opened with Florian landing some high kicks, although Sherk took him down. From the bottom, Florian landed an elbow at one point that had Sherk spilling blood like Edwin Dewees on TUF 4 this year. Still, probably a 10-9 Sherk round, although once again the entire betting room has Florian winning round two. And for the record, all those saying Florian won the round are betting for him, with me betting for Sherk. Bloody mess though, and Sherk is gushing.

Round 3: Round three was probably Sherk's, although again Sherk was pouring blood from horn to horn, so you could be distracted. Florian again landed good kicks early on the feet, until Sherk took him down - as he's been doing at will. Round ended with the two slugging it out good. Great fight thus far.

Round 4: Some people might call this a slow fight because most of it is on the ground is the same position, but it's a very entertaining fight. On the feet, Florian shows signs of hope with awesome kicks landing almost at will, but Sherk can take him down almost whenever he wants. At the same time, Sherk is bleeding terribly and his corner can't control the bleeding. Despite that, Sherk should be in a comfortable lead head into the final round.

Round 5: Round five was another good one. Probably a Sherk round again. Much of the same with on the feet Florian getting kicks at will, mostly to the body and Sherk getting takedowns whenever he wants. Sherk wasn't bleeding as bad as the other rounds, but still spilling some red. Several times towards the end of the round Florian was grabbing the fence, got several warnings but never lost a point. Nevertheless, I got 4-1 for Sherk with the only round against him being based on my friends description of the early portion of a round I missed while writing play-by-play of the previous round.

Sean Sherk def. Kenny Florian via Unanimous Decision (49-46, 49-46, 50-48) after 5 Rounds to capture the vacant UFC Lightweight title.

MAIN-EVENT:
Fight #9:
-Rich Franklin (c) vs. Anderson Silva (UFC MW Title)

Round 1: Anderson Silva wins by knockout, brutal vicious knockout a little over half way through round one. It was all on the feet, and even throughout most of the early part of the round but eventually Silva got a Muay Thai clinch and landed so many vicious knees to the body, both sides relentlessly back and forth, eventually touches and that chin and Franklin never recovered, despite remaining upright and landing a good punch after some seperation. Silva got a clinch again and blasted him with punches that really hurt him and a vicious knees that dropped Franklin, and he was completely out. "Big" John stopped it, and we have a new Middleweight champion.

Anderson Silva def. Rich Franklin via KO (knee) at 3:59 of Round 1 to become the new undisputed UFC Middleweight title.

I knew Silva was going to win, just didn't know he was going to make such easy work of Franklin. Franklin is good, but Silva is an animal. Heres the fight.

I'm getting pretty sick of the UFC giving guys that have only been in the league for a year title shots. Nate Quarry was another example who was way over hyped and under experienced going into a title fight... he only had like 3 fights in the UFC prior to that! Mike Swick is going to get torn apart by Silva and I for one am not going to waste any money or time on watching it.

^^^ I hear ya...I'm not sure which UFC fighter I'd *pay* to see fight Silva at this point. Loiseau would match up well, since he's very good in the clinch too. Seriously though, who else at 185 in the UFC can handle Silva? I think he will destroy Swick...

Matt Hughes was quoted saying that if Silva won, he'd want to move up in weight and fight him (Franklin and he are friends, so he wouldn't fight him). THAT is one fight I would pay to see. Hughes walks around at 185+ anyway, so it wouldn't be a big deal in that regard.

I was rather stunned to see Franklin pwned so easily...he was only marginally more successful then Leben (who I think is incredibly overrated)

that was a *crazy* Thai clinch from Silva...to hear Franklin say after that he couldn't break it...wow. Silva's effective, pinpoint knee strikes to the body...then to the head when Franklin was forced to defend them...very well executed plan.

perhaps a good learning experience for Franklin...he'll be back.


Florian impressed me, despite the clear decision loss. Sherk has historically steamrolled through most of his competition (other than in his loses at a higher weight to Hughes and GSP). That Florian lasted 5 rounds and landed some decent strikes was encouraging. He needs to improve his ground game though...for a BJJ blackbelt, his ground offense seemed pretty non-existent, other than a few half-hearted sub attempts...it kept him in the game, but that's about it.

Kongo...wow, what a disappointing performance...zero takedown defense, even when Marrero wasn't even hiding the fact that he was going to shoot immediately when they were stood up. If he doesn't develop some D, he's going nowhere at the elite level.

Lawler...meh...I still don't like the guy. Lauzon looked really good prior to getting caught was a couple of heavy shots. Good performance from Lauzon, given that he took the fight on 2 weeks notice.

I'm looking forward to Hughes-GSP...and my money is on Monson to dethrone Tim Sylvia for the HW title

more or less my sentiments aswell. I was even more impressed with Lauzon given he's only 18! The guy's only other job prior to the UFC was Highschool!
If he can stay away from taking too much damage from his next few fights, this kid is going to be one scary talented dude in a few years.

I was watching the fight with my friends....and they all said Franklin would win with ease. I told them Silva would win within 4 minutes of the first round....after some smart ass remarks from them I decided to throw a little money on the match....less than four minutes later I was $100.00 richer.

I miss the days I had free DirecTV in Canada, and it was legal. I only get to watch going down to WEGZ or a sportsbar. Otherwise they're torrents for me, and that's sometimes a pain.

I agree. It is probably the main reason why I think Franklin was so unprepared for Silva. I dont think he's used to fighting guys of that caliber, whereas Silva has been fighting all over the world with the best, and training with the best. Silva is probably the most well rounded champion that UFC has had in a long time, and hopefully will raise the bar for future champions.

PS.

I'd still would love to see Wanderlei Silva vs Chuck Liddell.
