My favourite band EVER!

Honestly, i could listen to them all day. I've got all of their 12" singles apart from This Charming Man - The New york dancefloor remix.

Funny story, i actually stole a massive Morrissey poster when i was out last night and i was trashed. I found it this morning and was happy as punch.

If i had a camera i would show take a pic. I stole a Borat picture as well lol.

Back on Topic, The Smiths are awesome, and Morrissey's solo work is fantastic as well.

i like the smiths. got meat is murder and the world won't listen. but it's, i have nothing bad to say about them. but i can't say they are my favourites. altho always liked morrissey's stile of writing and his beilefs (altho don't agree to some of them, i eat meat for instance). he sounds more sincere than the emobands of today.

!

whoawhoa whoa.. i didn't know there were any EDM remixes of their work

I always thought he had a great voice for jazz or blues. Could you imagine him doing some Tom Waits covers?!

oh and what are your faves?

it's not edm as such, it's just more suited to play on the dancefloor, it's super rare because morrissey disagreed with it haha, so they cancelled it after abouit 1000 copies.

As for my favourite Smiths song, that's quite tough, but i'll give you a top 5

5: What Difference Does It Make (The Hatful of Hollow one rather than the self titled album)

4: Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others

3: William It Was Really Nothing

2: Barbarism Begins At Home

1: Hand In Glove

I personally think in the entire span of the band, they've only done three songs that i would say are rubbish.

Last Night I Dreamt Somebody loved me, Paint A Vulgar Picture, and Death at Ones Elbow.

For a band with other 100 songs, that's not bad at all...

As for Moz's voice, i just think it just suits my mood all the time. I'm not a depressed person, i just love really dark and moody music, but some of his songs may seem dark or sad, but the lyrics are hilarious.

On December 3, 1983, a "New-York" mix by DJ François Kevorkian was released. Kevorkian geared the song towards the dancefloor, and it was originally intended to only be pressed in limited numbers for use by New York club DJs. However Geoff Travis, head of the Smiths' record label, Rough Trade, liked the mix and gave it a wide release in the UK. Predictably, it met a chilly reception from fans of a group that seemed almost at odds with dance music and culture, and was quickly deleted.[14] Morrissey later laid the blame on Rough Trade, saying in a February 1984 interview, "I'm still very upset about that. It was entirely against our principles, the whole thing, it didn't seem to belong with us. There was even a question of a fourth version, which would have bordered on pantomime. It was called the Acton version, which isn't even funny."[15] Travis has countered this, claiming "It was my idea, but they agreed. They said 'Go ahead', then didn't like it so it was withdrawn." He also said, "Nothing that ever happened in The Smiths occurred without Morrissey's guidance; there's not one Smiths record that went out that Morrissey didn't ask to do, so there's nothing on my conscience."

ahhh very interesting. he seems very devout. i feel that you should have the honour of making The Smiths appreciation thread.

and your spot on as far as the dark aesthetics, but if you really listen to the lyrics, it's not so much dark as it is.. olive or gray.

So please please please
Let me, let me, let me
Let me get what I want
This time

I've seen them live, not bad. I'm not really a fan but my cousin probably has all the Smiths/Morrissey releases on his collection.

Can't stand them. I know they were hugely important to making British rock completely pathetic and all that toast, but I don't like them.
