I have all my beatport tracks burned on CDs as data. There is a .wave file sitting on the CD. I burned them this way under the assumption that a CDJ can play them, and so I have access to the original file. Can a CDJ play a CD like this?

only certain models can read mp3 data cds, not waves

check model specs to find out which ones support mp3, there's quite a few out there

So even if it can read MP3 it can't read a .wav? I would think the .wav would be infinitely simpler since it's raw audio.

so what files did they play before the mp3 was incorporated into them?

An audio CD is a wav CD.

It's just the way the table of contents is layed out that makes the difference between a 'data cd' and an 'audio cd'.

Basically I see no point in burning a WAV as data. It's pointless.

You're free from time constraints. Most CDs hold only 80 minutes of music. If you burn, say, high-quality MP3s, you can hold a LOT more music on a CD if you were to burn it as a data rather than an audio disc. However, that's an excessive amount of tracks to dig through if you're going to be using it for DJ'ing as opposed to just backing up your data.

i have some cds with 5 songs some with 10 etc. i find it quite annoying and sometimes wish i had 1 song per cd. does anyone who plays in clubs have a few on each cd or 1 song per cd?

The difference between the "Audio" and "Data" cd is that the Audio one will automatically convert any mp3 files to .wav so it will play on a standard cd player. Data just burns it without and questions.

One track per CD would result in having to carry an incredible amount of CDs with you. I don't see why ten tracks per CD would be a problem. Keep them labeled so you'll know where the track is located on the CD. It only takes less than one or two seconds to skip between tracks.

all my cd's have an average of 8-10 tracks per disc, i make a TL for each cd and stick it in the cd book, easy as hell to find whatever track it is i want, i would'nt do it any other way.

i fill each cd up (8-10 tracks) and make another copy of it. label them and put them side by side. i also orginize them by genre, its helps to be orginaized when you have 400+ tracks on cds.
