damaged CDJ - beer involved.

so i got beer spilt on my cdj 800 at my gig last night (no it was'nt me). initially it was fucked, blinking weird numbers and letters, changing from color to color, would'nt eject the disc, made a clicking noise etc... needless to say i was pissed i tried to dry it off the best i could, but it was still fucked. however, this morning i thought, 'wtf, maybe it will work now' and for fucks sake it did. cd came out, no noises, no problem at all, plays fine, all buttons work etc... my question is, since the alcohol/liquid did obviously get inside the unit (went right in the jog wheel/platter) how long until it starts to corrode, or cause more damage, or will it? anybody have this same problem? im thinking of trading it in and paying the difference on an mk2 before i get fucked over completely, or having it serviced. i dunno.?

and i know, 'dont leave drinks by your equipment blah blah'
some things you cant control.

well if its in there..it has all the time in the world to do that. I would have the guy that did that pay for it to be cleaned! I'm sure he just took off though.

I dont know how much it will help, but go buy a small can of compressed air (you can find them at hardware stores) and blow some air into where the beer went in. This usually helps push away any remaining liquid.

Ouch.

I like to have a strict "no-liquid" policy near my decks (or any decks, if I'm near them). Nobody's ever to hold a drink while standing right next to them, unless the drink is closed. The only time I'll set a liquid on the table is if all of the gear is elevated (sitting on a book, etc.).

Just make sure its dry inside and you wont have any problems. The only real problem with getting it wet is that if you try to use it before its dry the liquid could cause a short circuit.

This may also just blow the liquid further into the machine.

Sorry about this mate, but you've invested bigtime cash into this equipment, dont consider any option unless it has "Professional" written all over it.

hmm.... if its currently working now, then im sure it'll be fine... if theres already a beer horror story involving a cdj here, and that one has been working for 2 years, im sure it'll be fine for a while, or at least until the next advancement in cdj technology, so you'll probably just want to upgrade if it craps out on you in the future......

but.... it it'd make you feel better, you can still try to clean it out, and you might even be able to do it yourself, just be careful...

heres my professional opinion.

if you can open it up, then try it. oh yeah... i'd unplug it first, but thats just me. anyway, just keep track of where any screws go. all that common sense. look around for where you see any beer residue. although im not sure if there would be any capacitors inside the cdj that would hold a charge, chances are if beer spilled in it while it was actually operating, using a little water to clean it up will be just fine. find any kind of lint-free cloth, and go to town.

if you wanna go the extra mile, you can use a solution of water and isopropyl alcohol, gruv-glide, or similar. if its safe enough for your records, it probably wont be eating through any silicon wafers, and im pretty sure it wont readily react with any metals either. also, it really wont have a chance to, because the alcohol will evaporate very quickly. as long as youre in there, you can use the aforementioned compressed air and get rid of any dust you find. once youre done, put everything back together. to avoid a short circuit, i'd leave it sit for a while to make sure that everything has evaporated before you plug it back in.

now your cdj will be squeaky clean.
