PRESS RELEASE For immediate release
Max Julien's First Single Coming in December!
Official launch at Stereo on December 9, 2006
Montréal - Monday, November 27, 2006 - DeepSound Promotions is proud to announce the very first single of veteran DJ Max Julien, "Newest Tribe (Stoned)", to be released on Slanted Black records in December 2006.
Furthermore, DeepSound Promotions is also proud to announce that the official launch of the track will be held at Stereo, one of North America's most respected after-hour clubs, on Saturday, December 9, 2006, as Max Julien will perform an extended set at the venue for the very first time. The legendary Robert Ouimet, one Canada's very first DJs, will close the night.
"Newest Tribe (Stoned)" displays Max Julien's signature underground tribal-house "wall of sound", which features sampled vocals by Tom Wilson, lead singer of Canadian alternative band Blackie & the Rodeo Kings, from the group's 1996 single "Stoned", originally released on True North Records.
The track is the first release of Max Julien's long 22-year musical journey, which began in 1984. The veteran DJ, who came out of retirement in 2003 following a twelve-year hiatus, had held residencies in some of the largest clubs in Montréal in the 1980s and early 1990s, notably the Lime Light, Mars, Alcatraz, Thunderdome, and Sphinx. Since his return, the 42-year-old has played at such venues as Montréal's Stereo, Quebec City's Terminal, Boston's Rise, as well as a plethora of events in Canada and the United States, such as last summer's Sun Dance Music Festival at Beach Club, produced by Godskitchen Canada.
Max is also one of the top music journalists on the underground dance music scene, writing for EDMM (www.edmm.ca) under the moniker DeepJ Max, and is bpm:tv's new "man in Montréal" for the nationally-telecast dance music station.
"I am extremely honoured to finally produce my own material", explained Max Julien. "Of course, after returning to the decks, production was the natural progression. Even with all the hard work I put into producing, just to have something released is beyond my wildest expectations. In fact, Slanted Black made my dream come true!"
The Boston-based Slanted Black records (www.slantedblack.com) will initially release the track on such Internet music shops as Beatport and the like, with a special vinyl run tentatively set for early 2007. The track will also be remixed by some of house music's best producers, which shall be announced shortly.
Stereo is located at 856 Ste-Catherine Street East in downtown Montréal.
