Bare with me now, long night.... but, I'm thinking about this right... and after listening to some "minima/ electro" sets, I really think the efforts (sets as a whole) are lacking true structure and direction. There are tons of gems out there that push the envelope and are truly original, but when I sit down for minimal and electro sets they seem shallow and often times predictible attempts at creating what a good mix should be. They are neither emotionally compelling, nor twisting and turning to directions unforseen. Take this as a drunken rant whathaveyou but I honestly feel this way about the two genres (often combined). I think there's loads of potential in them, so hence my frustration. Any thoughts, arguements against?

i dont think minimal can be really a direction or journey medium. You can have pretty much just a buncha great great tracks together that have nothing to do with eachother in a minimal set...programming minimal I would imagine is easy due to this......or maybe extremely hard if im wrong and minimal dj's actualy do program a directioned or journey set. That said what are some good Minimal tracks......Loco Dice was here this past weekend he rocked it.

there's too much minimal for minimals sake at the minute
when you strip it down there needs to be a groove, and there's a million and one records out there that simply don't have it

Just like any other genre most of it is shit and it is really up to the DJ to find the songs that aren't shit and put them together in a coherent way. That said it is probably impossible to put together a great set of ONLY minimal music. Throw in some tech, throw in some prog, a little bit of funk.

I'd say it falls into the "head-noddin' beats" category. I've never really had an emotional connection to any techno, though I like it for its roughness. Well, except the Detroit kind. Some beautiful strings there.

minimal and electro can be boring as fuck (minimal especially) when its all you hear in a set
