Good soundcards under $300.

I just bought a beefy new PC with a Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz processor, and I was wondering, what's a good sound card for under $300? My buddy recommended an Echo Gina 3G. But I want to get some second opinions. What do you guys recommend?

Doesn't matter. But if I had a choice, probably external. Internals usually go for less, right?

Yeah probably-

What do you want to do with it? That's key.

something to keep in mind, with an external you may have more latency than with an internal. this matters mainly if you are going to be doing a lot of recording...

anyway, the echo cards are good, but also look into the M-audio ones.

I'd also be interested in recommendations. External cards on a budget. I use FL Studio for production and Traktor for mixing. Currently have no external hardware except for my MIDI controller. I would like to get into recording vocals in the future.

A solid Firewire ADDA isn't going to have latency issues-

If its any use, I have the M-Audio Audiophile 2496...simple to use with gold plated RCA in and RCA out, internal card. Offers real low latency and excellent sound quality for like 110$

Sometimes I wish i had some more ins/outs but for the price it is a vast improvement over onboard / cheap sound cards...

I'm pretty comfortable with Pro Tools - but for I want to do it's Ableton + Reason. Thanks for the recommendation Clovis, I'll check into it. When I mentioned M-Audio to my friend, he shunned at me. Then there's the Motu Ultralight - amazing card but goes for $900.
