Is going silent and ignoring a person not one of the dumbest and least productive ways to handle a conflict or react when someone offends or angers you? Especially when the other person is not even clear on what is bothering you in the first place.
It annoys me.
Anybody here do this? WHY?
Anybody here get the "silent treatment" from anybody recently?

Yes.Been done to me before, and the person got an earful.
They're probably half deaf by now.

I think giving the "silent treatment" adds more problems to the situation.
I had someone give me the silent treatment for days. I was so furious with her (especially because I didn't know WHY she wouldn't talk to me,) that it has caused long-term problems with our friendship.

this one bitch has given me the silent treatment for the longest. Its been months since she last spoke to me.
maybe she no longer wants to be friends.
It bothers me, i think about her all the time.

It seems to be a popular knee-jerk female defense mechanism. Women are really good at saying everything by saying nothing though, so I can hardly blame them for using it. Becomes super annoying when somebody does it often though - very hurtful.

I got given 6 months of the silent treatment. I did sort of deserve it though I took some very private pictures of a girl I got a bit to friendly with at work. She was very nasty too me at house party for no reason. In return I showed the pictures to a load of work colleagues in the pub, my mates and my Dad saw them and found them hilarious. She was But let's just say I got even.
But on the thread topic yes it's childish thing to do and makes this awkward

on topic:
i've gotten the silent treatment multiple times from my roomate, it's so fucking dumb and stupid - i hate it. I deal with it by trying ONCE to talk to the person. If that fails, I just ignore them and basically give them the same treatment back. So it's pretty nice in the respect that you dont have to feel bad about ignoring that person.
I actually used to give silent treatment to people when I was younger, but I learned that it's pretty useless and usually does a lot more damage to a relationship than good.
