Online dating on the decline (and on the way out?)

I thought this might be interesting

http://redtape.msnbc.com/2007/02/online_dating_s.html

Admittedly this article was written around Valentine's Day (about a month ago) but the point it's making is that online dating is on the decline.

Online dating sites like Match peaked a few years ago and now are struggling

quote:

Only 10 percent of Net users questioned in a recent survey said they had recently browsed online personals, compared to 20 percent in 2003. And the decline seems to be quickening. Last year, the figure was 16 percent.

Comments?

The decline of sites like Match.com probably correlates well with the rise of sites like MySpace and Facebook. Instead of joining pure "dating sites," which still carry a certain stigma, people use more general sites for the same purpose.

Just a conjecture.

I'd have to intervene at this juncture and remark on flaw of aforementioned assertions. Quite contrary I think holds true, upon closer scrutiny. Alas, hereforth lies hyperbole of truth being so ubiquitous, it may appear incomprehensible to uninquiring persona. I venture to diverge from notions expressed by mass media and freely gravitate to grass-roots reporting, which, in this case, is the basis for my extrapolated contradiction.

As your attorney, I advise you not to quote me.

I read today that Johnny Depp is playing the lead character in Thompson's "The Rum Diary" to be released in 2008. From Wikipedia

A film is in production based upon Thompson's novel The Rum Diary. It is scheduled for a 2008 release, starring Johnny Depp. Bruce Robinson is directing.
