Students arrested at rave
Sunday, March 04, 2007 12:11:41 pm
The students have been taken into police custody from a rave party about 30 kilometres from Pune after a large quantity of drugs and currency were recovered.
The police was tipped off about the about the party a few days back and raided the party at around 3 am on Saturday night. The police team entered the rave party pretending to be students and seized the drugs and currency notes.
Investigations have begun and do not rule out the involvement of international drug peddlers in organising the party and supplying drugs to students.
The police also said that a majority of the students had consumed alcohol but are undergoing tests to confirm whether they consumed drugs or not. If the tests results are positive, they could get a minimum sentence of two-three years.

Pune: The Pune rural police raided a rave party in Donje Village at the foothills of Sinhagad fort, 40 kms from Pune, at 2.30 am yesterday.
They arrested nine people, including three Mumbaikars. for possession of drugs under the Narcotics and Psychotr-opic Substances Act (NDPS). Charas, ganja and California drops were found on them.
The police acted on a tip off that 1,500 bottles of California drops would be coming into Pune. They also detained 251 boys and 29 girls, mostly outstation students studying in Pune
Too drunk, stoned
Those arrested are Dhruv Pavan Kaushal, Ramdas Chandrakant Hagavane, Paramjitsingh Brar, Shivendu Prabhatkumar Gupta (all Punekars) Sharad Mulot Shankar, Shilarna Achyut Vaze, Simrut Harish Silmali (all Mumbaikars) and two Germans Stephen Ervin Muler and Christopher. Muler and Kaushal were the peddlers, and were nabbed with the cash from the drug sales.
“The road leading to the farmhouse is visible from the house, but the people at the party were too drunk and stoned to notice our approach.
We surrounded the farmhouse and entered the party posing as invitees. We found people had especially flown in for the party from as far as UP, Bangalore, Chennai,” said Vishwas Nangrepatil, superintendent of police, Pune (rural).
Coded invites
He added the party had been arranged by an Indonesian woman, Shaina, who has been declared absconding in Indonesia too.
The invitations were apparently sent through two websites — Orkut and isratrance.com. We found coded messages on the sites and SMSes with some of the detainees.
The nine arrested had also sent SMSes to the invitees, with directions to the location. There were arrows pasted on white papers along the road indicating the location of the party.
What they found
The police recovered some weird-looking items — plastic bottles inserted with a pipe and plastic tubes with drug pellets in them — from the party. “We need to send the drugs for chemical analysis to understand their nature,” said Nangrepatil.
The police confiscated 45 four-wheelers, 29 two-wheelers, 100 gm charas, 2.5 kg ganja, 15 bottles of California drops and beer bottles.
Meanwhile, the rural police headquarters was crowded by anxious parents in the evening. An irate parent said, “They have detained even those who were not involved in the party and were just parking their vehicles.
They should immediately leave those who have tested negative in the medical tests.” The police were carrying out medical tests on the detainees till late last night.
