The Future of demo tapes...

I will never be sending a demo tape ever again, why? I have just came up with a brilliant idea...

Whilst messing around in Flash it came to me, why don't you make an interactive CD, you can store your mixes as MP3 on the CD so you can get like loads of your old mixes as well as new ones. Not only that but you aren't limited to doing 90 minute tapes or 80 minute CD's, you could if you fancied do a 4 hour set. Not only will the club promoters get to hear your mixes, but they can see your CV and any other nice extras you wish to throw in there. And the added bonus is it looks so much classier than just receiveing a tape plus a typed out page with tracklisting and contact details. You could astound them by providing an in depth analysis of some of your mixes, why you played those tunes at that time and why you mixed it with such and such a tune!

Guess what I'll be doing this summer...

i guess that would be a good idea if you have a lot of time on your hands.. but then the promoters couldn't just get a copy of ur tape or CD and listen to it on the way home from the club!

yup....and what promoter has enough time to listen to a bunch of 4 hour sets. If you wanna be original, just like send your regular demo CD in a pizza box or sumpin

That sounds like a pretty good idea but the promoters would have to have a lot of time on their hands to spend that kinda effort into reading your resume and listening to your 4 hour mix. It's just like getting a job, actually, this demo CD thing. Make it short, simple, sweet (coz most of the time they won't have time to entertain everyone), but drive home the point- "I want that damn job."

The concept is great, but a promoter at first just wants to hear the music.

But...

I can totally relate to what AcidCircus is saying. I have a Flash website with downloadable/streaming live sets and other info like he described. My demo CD is labeled with my website and email address, so if they're interested, they can find out more info.

I suppose you could probably put the Flash movie and referenced mp3 files on a separate CD and include it with an audio CD. It may be too high-tech for the average person, but probably won't hurt.

I love playing around with Flash anyway, so I'm doing it mainly for the fun.
