help with securing gig

what is the best way to handle dealing with lounge/club owners who make the decision if you get to play at their venue or not? What if they are always too busy to talk to you or not very responsive?

Should you be persistant and keep trying to talk to them or should you assume all hope is lost? Is this just part of the business?

thanks!

Push them, but not too much. Let them know that you mean business.

Ive had a similar problem recently at a club where i gave the promoter a copy of my cd. He came back to me the following week and said he really liked it and wanted to book me to play sometime. Its been almost a month since then. I usually only saw the guy in the club when he was either drunk or really busy and everytime he would say he would email me etc. Finally i just asked him for his card or sommin so i could get in contact with him outside of the club.

I just found that i had to keep showing him i was still interested to play. I would advise againts pushing it too hard or giving up completly. Just keep at it, try to talk about other dj related stuff when you see the owners etc and eventually if they see that your really in to what your doing then things should work out.

the biggest thing i can offer

support the night you want to play at

be a familiar face, walk up and shake the promoter's hand each time you come in and ask if they've had a chance to listen to your mix yet, if so, what he they thought about it and if they're considering booking you for an upcoming gig

be polite, but be be assertive

show that you want the gig, bring a few friends with you, show that you can actually bring people into the building or if you're just another bedroom god that can't bring people through the door to hear you play

if you can't bring people through the door and get drinks in their hands, you can keep practicing your jesus pose in front of your oakenfold poster, cause that's where you're going to stay

anyone i've ever booked had a reputation or has supported and i've gotten to know a bit because they've come out
