Hey all, been working hardcore the past week on a new track...literally ever waking hour ive spent is on this project (i have a fair amount of free time on my hands).

so anyways, the track was coming along fine and little by little im hitting more road blocks. to make a long story short i basically butchered the track and im not sure if its worth it to back track a bit and redo a lot of the original stuff that was working?

i feel like its a classic case of overproducing...i sort of over did it and now its garbage...time to move on? what do you all think?

i always go back and over produce. once i get a tight drum essemble and bass line. i try tons of things until im happy and even when i think im done i go back and change some sounds. the main thing is the beat and bass once you get that, yer golden

Do you have any idea what you'll need to do to get it back in shape?

i went and got some breakfast and came back to it...im thinking to get rid of the extraneous effects that might be distracting from the melody....shorten it up a bit, and certainly fix some percussion issues thats im facing.

basically it was good to go and i just made a mess tonight, so im gonna sleep on it and see if its worth revisiting tomorrow.

Finish it as quickly and half assed as you can and forget about it. It wont be good, but its important to finish everything you start.

Some good advice I should follow myself

My absolute deadline is always 2 weeks - if it takes any more than that to do a tune it's a lost cause and it'll get abandoned.

Take a break on it... start on the next tune, come back in a few weeks and you'll know if there's anything worth salvaging.

well its amazing what a good night's sleep and a fresh ear can do...i woke up and had another listen to see if what i had was salvageable...

i can definately work with it and will proably finish the production tonight...this has certainly been an experience for me where the creation has evolved into something i hadn't expected, but not necessarily bad (as i now can tell with a fresh ear).

i always export the project and its audio components into a new folder and backup onto a cd. its always good to go back to tracks that you couldnt complete due to a lack of skill, once you have learned a bit more in the months since starting it. i think i have only started about 5-10 tracks that are unfinished. most get completed sooner or later. my latest track im working on is a project file from 1.5 years ago that never got completed.
