What, you thought capitalism has been that successful on it's own? It's a flawed system, like any other. It's been around for longer because it permits accumulation of wealth and wealth can help perpetuate almost anything. Scruples diminish profits man, they have to get thrown out the window. Shareholders are key!

I don't deny John's involvement or stories but anyone who believes this is the root of Capitalism needs to get their head checked....just sayin'...

No, the root of capitalism is more brutal. Slave trade, invasions, conquering, genocide. Shit, this is probably nothing more than a speck of dust in capitalism's CV. You're right, those who think this is the root of capitalism need they're head check.

¨Well, that’s extremely significant. When I was sent to Ecuador as a Peace Corps volunteer in 1968, Texaco had just gone into Ecuador, and the promise to the Ecuadorian people at that time from Texaco and their own politicians and the World Bank was oil is going to pull this country out of poverty. And people believed it. I believed it at the time. The exact opposite has happened. Oil has made the country much more impoverished, while Texaco has made fortunes off this. It’s also destroyed vast areas of the Amazon rainforest.¨
very true, i visited the Ecuadorian Amazon two weeks ago and seeing these huge oil pipelines and factories was so depressing, three hours up into the amazon by motor canoe and you can still see huge lights covering the entire horizon deep in the amazon from these Oil Factories working through the night its fucking disgusting

Capitalism is nothing more than the abscence of force.
What you seem to be upset with is something closer to fascism...when govt and corporations collude to exploit people.

Right, the absence of force. Large corporations, the hallmark of capitalism, subsist on the basis of exploitations. Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but we all know that if these large corporations had not exploited and pillaged peoples without punishment the US would not be the huge economy it is, hell most of the 'developed' countries wouldn't have. Your country's economic machinery, and most other developed countries, have been built on the basis of tyranny. I'm just remarking on how disgusting it is, and how funny that you and others think that this system has actually grown and maintained itself just because it's so virtuous.
