My First Virus TI

Hey guys, I'm gettin my Access Virus TI Desktop tomorrow and i'm really excited..however I had a few questions about which soundcard/audio interface i should buy to use it with...
To start off, I produce my tracks at 24-bit/96kHZ...so i hope that bit of info helps because I don't know if I should buy a 24-bit/96kHZ audio interface which is a lot cheaper or a 24-bit/192kHZ...(reason for this is that i'm going to be on budget after i buy the TI) I'm really open to USB and FireWire...so you could suggest from both...

the one i chose is the M-Audio FireWire 410 Recording Audio Interface <--Link

it says that it is 24-bit/96kHZ digital recording,
but also notes that that it has 192kHz output (output 1 and 2 only; 96kHz on others); 96kHz input...

I don't really understand that..so can someone help me out? please thanks so much...

Sample rate is irrelevant since you will be doing everything at 44hz anyway. Hence there is no real difference between 96 and 192 cards.

I'm a fan boy, but I'm going to recommend an Echo AudioFire 4. I think for the price, not much can compete. The hardware is definately much better quality than M-Audio stuff. I owned an M-Audio Firewire Audiophile and had nothing but problems with it (a few people on this forum had the same problems too). That kind of put me off M-Audio.

Important question though... What do you need the card to do? How many I/Os?

Virus TI can also function as a soundcard.

And if you are doing audio and mid over USB, you could actually live without a new soundcard. Really comes down to what else you need?

TI got 2 TRS ins and 6 TRS outs and SPDIF I/O. I believe it does at least 96Khz on all of them, i am lasy to look it up. You don't need another audio interface to get TI going. It plugs nicely into powered monitors and has hardware volume knob.

Virus TI via USB will give you 2x Outputs, plus 16 channels of midi.

You said earlier that you were on a budget?

I'd advise waiting on buying a new soundcard until you are in a position to grab a NL3, then re-examine your needs at that point in time.

If you can get by with the TI via USB for now, see how you get along, then in the future you may find you want a more capable (ie more I/O's) soundcard at a later point in time.

Feonix, if using the Ti as an audio interface covers you for I/O... DON'T buy another interface. I mean... isn't it obvious? If you wait until you ACTUALLY NEED IT, you're going to get something way better.

At the moment, the way I see this going... You're making an impulse buy for the sound card, you will buy something crap, and you will regret it. THEN in a year or so you will have to go and buy something completely new when it no longer does what you want.

Clearly the Virus TI was an impulse buy too, because you have absolutely no idea about what it does.

Don't be a fool, you will waste much money.
