Layering

I've read this on here a few times (layering), anyone tell me what it is?
While I'm here, might as well ask what 'on the fly' means too. I've read this one a few times too.
Hey, come to think of it, what about an ABC of DJ terms for non-native English speakers?
Just joking but I am curious about layering and on the fly.
Thanks

Layering is playing one track on top of another (i believe)

on the fly is doing something that is not prepared in advance.

In a sentence: "That mother****** was layering tracks on the fly"

sorry i mean.

isn't layering only a technique used when spinning techno? . coz techno records have a on them some thing called lock groove.

a lock groove deliberately loops back onto itself. so the same revolution is played over and over again .

no that's bullshit

was this in some sort of djing for dummies guide you read or something?

you can layer everything and anything (and should unless you want to be a gimp dj just playing one record after another)

just use your ears. some things sound good, some things don't

also lol that might have come out harsh but i don't mean to be offensive

Sweet man!

I've heard this one Trance set with scratching and it sounded really good. I wish I still had the set or could remember the DJ name! This wasn't hard trace, this was just plain old trance. I think the intro track was Greece 2000. I've tried scratching before, and it's definitely something to work on. Good luck!

hahaha yeah definately man .. but scratching can be really distracting though .. coz u just have too much fun scratching to the record that u forget to bring the next track in .. happened to me a few times .

I try to layer as many of my transistions as I can by bringing in the next record pretty early so you have some elements of the next track 2 - 3 minutes b4 its ''really'' playing. And as for scratching, it can be a really cool effect to surprise the crowd. A cool technique I like to use is to put echo on the second record and scratch it during a buildup on the main track. And since I scratch using the first beat of the upcoming track I just start matching the second track right from there
