having not gone out much in the Bay area yet, I can only offer bits and pieces of info. Here are some pointers to get you started, though...
http://del.icio.us/jburwen/sfevents <--- a friend of mine bookmarked a whole bunch of SF Event listing websites.
http://www.mighty119.com/ <--- a club in SF that is supposed to be great (I have not been there yet because I'm lame ). I don't know what the age limits are.
In SF, the 2 super clubs are 1015 Folsom and Ruby Skye. Most of the time when I hear about a big name dj coming to the area, that's where they're spinning. Again, I'm lame, haven't been yet...
And there's some club called Abyss in Sunnyvale (which is just north of Santa Clara), but I couldn't find any DJ info on their site AND it's got a hip hop clip on the main page... but it did look like there are some 18+ nights, so, uh, you never know? http://www.sjabyss.com/
If I were you, I'd also look into clubs in San Jose, since it's so close to Santa Clara.
If you like underground parties, you can probably find some great stuff within the Burning Man community. The friend whose del.icio.us site I linked to is constantly telling me about some underground party or other in the East Bay or SF where people are dancing all night long. http://www.burningman.com/
http://burningman.tribe.net/
A local Burning Man group who seems to be all over and know how to throw a great dance party is Space Cowboys. I spent most of my time at Lovefest last year dancing at their float. http://www.spacecowboys.org/

Anyway, hope that's helpful to start.

p.s. I love your basement

well night life in the bay area is strictly geared towards the 21+ crowd, but boy will you be spoiled once you become of age. the locals are usually out on the town 5-6 days a week and there's no shortage of places to go, things to do. some nice places to visit this time of year would be yosemite valley, lake tahoe, napa valley, pacific coast highway to point reyes, half moon bay, santa cruz/monterey/carmel, and of course all the destinations within sf: golden gate park, twin peaks, embarcadero, fisherman's wharf, nob hill, gg bridge, union square, westfield, downtown, at&t park, north beach, chinatown, museums and art galleries, and a selection of food that is only matched by nyc. another must see is the san jose grand prix, which is at the end of july... open-wheel race cars blasting through downtown sj ftw.
