Review: Gregor Tresher at Core Collective Studios

Being a noob to minimal techno...I didn't know what to expect of the night...but I can honestly say that last night was a good night music-wise...

Tresher's set was filled with brain-tickling, body-shaking (at times very groovy...) tunes which rocked the room of about 80ish people...overall, good mixing, nice build-ups, with a couple of awkward moments...but dark, dirty techno =

Jamie Kidd's set was pretty good as well, with a couple of technical difficulties -- but some of tunes he spun were quite trippy...yes, it sent goosebumps down my back trippy...

The fact that the venue took place at a recording studio made the event better (acoustics in the room where the djs spun were amazing). Oh, the darkness of the room and the set-up of the booth reminded me of a mini "comfort-zone."

I was afraid that I wasn't going to be able to get in (b/c of the limited space...and that I wasn't on the guestlist) -- but thanks to the person who organized the event I was able to get the opportunity to experience a really great night of tunes...

The highlight of my weekend. The place was intimate and dark..I was creeped out the moment I got there, I loved it! The atmosphere in this loft/studio was unreal. It reminded me of the basement from the Tronic party I went to in Detroit. Surrealness! Less than 150 people were about...hardcore, older techno fans. The tunes were next level...heard so many of my current favourite tracks; Gregor Tresher was pretty awesome! Finally a techno/minimal set that was on par with my likings here in Toronto. Lots of groovy, evil melodic tracks.

Jamie Kidd's set afterwords gave me chills with his haunting opening track. Jackie and I were lounging in the kitchen with our eyes closed, keeping track of the story that was being told by the song....when the bass finally dropped we both flinched our bodies and said "Whoa!" lol. What a mind fuck!

We were the only two people really going at it the whole time, but we seemed to have created a rippled effect, and got most people dancing. Again, AWESOME vibe!

Cheers to Gregor, Nitin, and Kidd, as well as Alex for everything. I look forward to the next party.

Great music all around. Gregor stayed around after his set and I picked his brain on the German music scene...Berlin minimal hipsters and the like...but he was very down to earth! I really enjoyed Jamie's set and Nitin's set (who I hadn't heard play in years) - I stayed way later than expected and was royally hurting the next day. Good times though! Thanks to xanu for bringing such a great DJ to such a small space.

Thanks for the kind words! This party was a blast!

Just to clarify, that set was not a dj set, but rather a live p.a. of ALL ORIGINAL music composed by my brother in arms, Frederik Hatsav and myself (Jamie Kidd).

We perform and release music under the METALOGIC alias (a collaboration project Frederik started years ago.)
Check out our new 12" ep on New York's ADDON called 'Atom Eater'.

Our next live performance is on the main stage at the Eclipse festival this year!!! (and no, there wont be any trance in our set )
