Apologies in advance for a potential repost:

A few weeks ago hooked up my new setup, CDJ's and DJM600 to my fairly small yet sufficient for an apartment speaker setup which consists of my Yamaha receiver and 5 small JBL speakers + subwoofer. I've had this speaker set for a few years and it's worked nicely for what I have used it for up until the time I hooked my Yamaha receiver to my DJM 600. Now, it seems as if I've blown a few of the small speakers. I'll troubleshoot to make sure, but as of now I'm convinced that they're blown.

I wish I knew more about speakers and amps, but with my limited knowledge I come here seeking advice. I'm looking for recommendations on what I should purchase for a nice speaker setup, and possibly an amp (if needed) to power them. I should be able to use my JBL subwoofer which is definitely sufficient for my bedroom DJ setup, but it looks as if I'll need new speakers. I wouldn't mind having the ability to use the speakers at other events- say, if I decided to start djing at places other than my room. I have a large amount invested in my music so I'm not afraid to spend a little cash, however, I don't really want to spend a few thousand dollars for 2 speakers, either.

Can anyone recommend a speaker setup and amplifier (if needed) that might suit my needs. I've read about the JBL EON G2's for portable djing. If I went with something like this, could I use those and just power that JBL subwoofer with my Yamaha receiver and still continue to run the DJM 600 off that same receiver? Or, would you recommend some floor speakers and a separate amp.

I'm open to all suggestions and appreciate everyone's time (and better knowledge of speaker systems, etc.)

i say go with some powered speakers...honestly, i just prefer not dealing with trying to find the right amp and shit...im more of a plug and play kind of guy

if cash isnt an option, check out the jbl prx series. i really like those speakers. good umph without the matching sub, and even if you get the sub...its not overbearing but just enough to give it an extra kick.

with a budget like yours, i would recommend that you get seperates. That is, an stand-alone amplifier with speakers. I haven't had too much experience with professional amplifiers but in my numerous encounters at clubs and with pro mobile dj's, crown seems to be the most used amplifier brand. EAW makes excellent speakers and you should def check it out...ultimately it depends on how much you wanna spend compared to how often you will use it...if you only think the bedroom will be your play out venue then you should just snag some krk's or any other studio monitor.

well with my experince in speakers i recommand many types with high performance such as JBL but it will not fit ur budget for sure if u want a real good monitors for ur DJ setup u can get one of those 2 speakers

1- M-audio Bxa8 (40 watts RMS) or Bxa5 (20 watts RMS) this had recommanded as one of the best monitors by well known producers/djs but for me i had listen to it's sound and you will not find that much big different on the sound quality and for me it's expensive for 2 way monitors with 40 or 20 watts soo if u like to have low volume while mixing and great quality get this ...

2- Behringer TRUTH 2030(110 watts RMS)/2031(225 watts RMS) 2-way active refrence monitors , well this one what i have and really I think it make you live inside the mix and make ur heart beats from it's sound and it have a high quality sound and less expinsive than the M-audio and really for me the 2030 which i have make the room shaking i didn't try the other one but if i have it ,i think it will destory the whole room (I recommand this monitors for producing and djaying )

To the poster: is there any way you can narrow down your search by providing us information on whether you want monitors or big PA type speakers.

I hadn't really thought about it up until now. I'm not afraid to spend some money on speakers/amps, etc. because music, especially trance & house) is a big passion of mine and stereo equipment purchased now I can use the rest of my life so I guess what I'd like to do is start building up a system that would be great for small events, house parties, my bedroom, etc. and add from there as I get more money so maybe in a couple years I have enough stuff to dj at larger events if I choose to do so. I figure down the road I could always use the speakers in different rooms of a house or what not- i'm trying to look at it as more of an investment than a large purchase.. trying to justify it

With an amp, how many speakers can I power? How big of an amp am I looking for? What's the benefit of an amplifier/speaker setup over the powered speakers listed above? Those JBL's looked pricey but I bet they sound pretty nice. Can I power both speakers and sub off of the same amp or will I need separate amps for both?

^^^^^^ man to save ur money look for speakers with Bi-amplified so u don't need to worry about it's amplifier anymore anyway if u want to get seperate speakers and seperate amplifiers i think the equation should be equal from both sides if u got for example a (1000 RMS watts) speakers u should have a (1000 RMS watts ampifier) to tolerant the speaker

I've read some reviews on those Behringer 2031A's and for the most part they've received excellent reviews and most say they are an extremely good value. It looks like I can get a new pair of these for about $250. I don't see how I could go wrong for that amount of money. From the reviews it seems like the only problem I can run into is that they might pick up some AM/FM radio stations if you live in a town. Also, a couple people said they blew them out after about a year.
Aside from that, 95% of the reviews that I've read said they're very good speakers for the money. I figure I might as well try them out. I'm sure that for now, they'll be more than enough for my room. I can always research and look into buying bigger and better down the road when I get serious about needing speakers for bigger areas.
If for some reason they pick up radio stations in this area- I can always sell them and at the price I paid, I doubt I'd lose much $.

Recommendations for other setups still appreciated as I'll refer back to this thread down the road as I look to purchase more equipment.

they're cheap, they're aesthetically pleasing, and they sound pretty damn tight...

also the mackie srm450s are really nice if you have the cash...

But the amplifier has to be able provide more watts than the speakers can handle if you want it to sound allright . Putting an amp to it's max often provides strange peaks which can ruin your speakers. So it's always recommended to have a stronger amp than your speakers can handle. This ensures optimal sound-quality under all circumstances, as long as you don't turn it up too much or else...

I have the Behringer Truths b2031. They go insanely loud for their price range. And they're not that bad either. Allthough I'm going to look for some better speakers sooner or later. (3000+Euro instead of 500 which the Truths cost me some years ago).

wow...who have you guys been talking about for speakers and amps combos....a rating of 1000watts max on a speaker should not be exceeded...in fact, a good rule of thumb is to get an amplifier that provides half the rms rating for power. So 250RMS watt amp for 500watt rms speaker...

amps just need to have the ohm rating matched with the speaker ohm rating...but not power...you can drive speakers with one watt and not blow the amp as long as you have ohm levels in check...
