Be Cool!

How many people here would consider themselves to be a "bedroom DJ"?
Ya know... ya screw around with mixing stuff but never really play live or anything... just as a hobby maybe...

I sure am... I figure when I'm done school and have time/money I would actually perform...

Of course, the other question is how does one go from being a bedroom DJ to playing a few sets? Thats the ticket.

yesssssssssss
me too
i have been bedroom djing properly for a year now befor that with crappy gear.
I had my first gig in january
I tell its a shock, cause you can rock the place in your room right. out there is a whole new ballgame. Delay monitoring, sound, the nerves and the gear is different. I had trouble getting used to the mixer and the tt's where much looser.( with beatmatching the records) It was fucking fun though cant wait for my next one. Its better than extasy. When it works I had 40 minutes only and I had one big mess up. The rest were all standard mixes. It was at my school ball. I was standing up there with my tux on behind the wheels of steel and all the birds at my school (which are fine (but cocky ___Damn!!!!!!)looking at me druling LOL. No it was the best night I ever had. If u know what I mean. I could finally show to people what I had been doing for the past 9 months. It was tough though swithing to a larger sound system

Cool

Well i'm a bedroom dj when it comes to vinyl but i've actually started my own dj company with a few buds BUT we dj with cds. yeah yeah i know cd djing is less glamourous but its a start and give me a couple more months and i'll be rocking the gigs with the wheels of steel.

As to how to make the transition from bedroom dj to club/rave dj. Well i found out that you should find a really good vinyl shop and meet everybody you can. You'll be amazed at how many people have connections.

im getting better at beatmatching im not perfect. the thing im having trouble with is phasing. i cant match the measures so they both sound in sync i can match the bass drums preety good but the measures im always a measure off and it pisses me off but eventually ill have it all down and when i do thats when i record my mixes in .mp3 format and then make promo cd's and send em out to a few peeps and hopefully ill get some gigs

I think I've got the beatmatching thing down pretty good -- it'll got out of phase a little now and then, but I think it still sounds decent.
I mean, even the biggest name DJs don't get it perfect every time

I'm working on making the set more "exciting"... I mean, anybody can mix 2 songs together over a 20-30 second mix... I think is better to make the mix more exciting, if appropriate. I always feel bad if you can tell when the next song in the mix starts. Sometimes its ok, but I find it boring... i donno... something to work on i guess
