I'm not a DJ, but as a promoter I know that most DJ's enjoy (or demand) working with some sort of Pioneer CDJ's for the CD player.

You need to do a ton of research. It appears as if you have no idea whatsoever what you're getting into, and audio equipment is expensive, and if you dont know what you're buying you're going to have a ton of problems and waste hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

If you have any specific questions you can PM me.

To the OP:
Oh, I just looked at the link you provided in Craigslist. Don't buy crap products! You'll waste more money in the long run like I did.

there are only 2 advice in buying dj gear

1) if u want turntables, GET A TECHNICS
2) if u want cdjs, GET A PIONEER

they're expensive... but the biggest mistake is to buy crap equipments, my first set up was 2 numark TTs and a crap numark mixer, i didnt learn shit.. because the turntables wasnt direct drive (meaning does not have a magnetic motor so can not hold its speed therefore preventing you from learning how to beatmatch well)

now there are a couple of options available, but u need to ask yourself first...

WHAT KIND OF MUSIC ARE YOU GONNA BE SPINNING, what is your interest, what genre???

I just recently switched to cdjs, bought 2 pioneer cdj 800 mk2 $600 a piece, but they are such a great deal, i love them!
i spin psy trance, and they dont press vinyl anymore for that kind of music, therefore i made the switch...

Now, it's not that turntables are dead, i love em... they're still great, and i would never sell mine. but u need to see what kind of "weapons" are available to you, as for me, only thing available in vinyls are commercial stuff, and used LPs are running out... buying used LPs are the best btw if you're into mixing and they are cheap!!!

IF YOU ARE SHORT OF MONEY... and u decide to buy turntables

get a STANTON T120, now this turntables are the ones i have, they are not technics, but they are half the price, with a DIRECT DRIVE motor, and has a very strong motor... very very very similar to Technics turntables, they are made heavy, and are build like Technics... will cost you about $199 each

a good beginning mixer is Pioneer DJM 300, can buy used for about $200... only buy mixer that has EQs (bass, mid, treble control)

now as far as cdjs... never buy the combo cjds, to begin is good to have cdj 200s, they're pretty cheap...

IF YOU'RE ON A TIGHT BUDGET, SAVE SOME MORE MONEY AND WAIT!!! TRUST ME, dont make same mistake i did...

CHECK OUT SERATO OR ABLETON TOO IF YOU WANNA BE A LAPTOP DJing MP3... there's nothing wrong with that, cheap music, all mp3s, and u can do more mixing controlled by the computers...

GOOD LUCK

if you're spinning cd's i'd suggest starting with the pioneer cdj-200's. you can find them new for about $300 apiece. i'd recommend starting with a lower end mixer as well - i have one i could sell you for cheap, it would work well for a beginner. i wouldn't advise starting with the high-end stuff until after you've decided that it's something you want to stick with (however, you also want to avoid the total junk stuff - moreso the decks than the mixer). the cdj-200s are a great value for the money. yer welcome to come over & try mine if you want sometime.

And don't play crappy quality tracks ever!

Never Ever get any music that isn't at least 256K MP3, 320K is the way to go. Trust me, later on you will notice the difference from the 192K files, they just don't sound like the Artist was intending it to sound like.

That is an overkill for a starter package. Most people will give up right away.
