The untold story of Russia is that its worse than that - police officers, tax men, bankers, government officials, pastors, media personalities, TV show hosts, etc. have been brutally murdered in Russia since 1991. actually no, but i can understand how you could infer that from my post.

i read somewhere (and i'm still trying to source it) that Politkovskaya was one in a series of like a dozen journo's to be murdered since 2000.

whether it was Putin responsible i really don't think so.

Russian affairs, politcal and social, are so effed up it's hard to say anything conclusively but to say...Russia sucks. Russia has always sucked.

Yes, it does suck in Russia right now. We need some tough changes implemented in Russia to stop the degredation of the culture and society. However, it seems like a strong government is a bad idea because it conflicts with Western ideologies of containing Russian interests. So, basically, nothing's really going to change there, not for a long time because of that. Only a strong government can restore some order in the country, Yeltsin's free will policies have done so much harm for the country.
