• Wii News & Updates

I feel this needs its own thread while "The Wii Thread" will be for trading Friend Codes and Wii #, etc. and any FAQs and technical questions.

Hello fellow Wii buddies!

Here I'll be posting up any news and updates on Nintendo's new successful game system titled Wii (and portable handheld, Nintendo DS).
I do weekly posts mostly on new releases of classic games (from NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, TurboGrafix16, etc.) on the Virtual Console located within the Wii Shop Channel and Super Smash Bros Brawl's website, Smash Bros. DOJO!, updates.

So basically, I'm just copying and pasting from my Wii blog to here and other forums I visit. \:D/

You may trade Friend Codes through PM or within "The Wii Thread".
So the following post will be the latest news I wrote today.

The last chapter to the Prime series, considerably the best thus far, perhaps the best Wii title to date.

Reviews are soaring! IGN rating it a high 9.5 today.

Also, if you guys haven't seen yet, the final 2 video previews are available on the Metroid Prime 3 Preview Channel which is downloadable from the Wii Shop. you take a peek at Dark Samus.

So basically you're just posting stuff that can easily be found (and is often read) by other gaming forum readers on Joystiq or Kotaku?

The Metroid Prime 3 Preview Channel is only available where the game is about to be released in (which is now out in America). I guess the game's not out elsewhere yet, so you guys may have to wait a while.

By the way, according to Gamesutra, Amazon.com has gathered about 400,000 sales on Metroid Prime 3 [Wii], and that's pretty hefty for its first week and only been out in North America.

There's a pre-order available for Guitar Hero III Bundles.
The Extreme Bundle will come with keychain, gig bag, and strap while the Elite Bundle comes with all those 3 items plus custom faceplate, and GH3 T-shirt.

Guitar Hero III Official Store for Wii

Guitar Hero III for the Wii will be the "unique" one of the bunch as it’s the only version that requires players to plug in a Wii remote before they can start rocking out.
With a pricetag of $89.99, the release date is set for October 29th of this year.
Features: 16:9 Support, 480p Support, Online, Force Feedback
Actually, the Wii Remote+Guitar combo adds a couple of features that won't be in the other versions of Guitar Hero. First: Rumble; The Wii version will be the only Guitar Hero game that will feature force-feedback thanks to the rumble in the controller. Second: Wii Remote's Speaker; which is used for the game's "squelch" when you miss a note. Hearing it come from your guitar makes two player co-op and two player competition a bit more fun since you can easily tell which player's the one that's screwing up the notes.

If you guys didn't know, Speed Racer is being brought back to life in a live-action motion picture for 2008. The game has been announced for Wii, DS, and PS2 and will be based upon the movie itself.

----------------
Also, For the RPGers out there, I'd like to mention a new Fire Emblem title for Wii. It'll be called Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn which takes place three years after the events of the GameCube's title Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance.

Newly added to the North American version will be widescreen support. A "Battle Save" function, new to the Fire Emblem series, will allow players to create a permanent save in mid-battle. Radiant Dawn can be played with the Wii Remote by itself (held vertically or horizontally), as well as with the GameCube and Classic controllers.
It's expected to be released in America this fall on November 5th.

Joystiq and Kotaku are news sites. Takes a moment to browse 'em.

Oh and, there may just be a 24/7 preview channel for Wiis everywhere. In recent surveys, Nintendo was curious to see if people were interested in such a channel (honestly, this should have been a pre-req). The channel would include some of these things: pictures, music, videos, demos and plenty of links.

I'm waiting for the "Wiitunes" channel.

Nintendo could offer music downloads for .50 a pop, save them to the Wii's internal memory and let you use them as the soundtrack in racing games, etc.. That would kick ass.

Smash Bros. DOJO! reveals Mario's special Down move ability to use the F.L.U.D.D. water pack (as in Super Mario Sunshine [for GameCube]) to pump water and send players off a great distance. It's also chargeable while shielding and best used in critical moments in battle. His previous Down move, Mario Tornado (spinning arms), is still present in Brawl but may be a normal move now.

The new version of the Pokemon Stadium stage will featured guest Pokemon in the background as the stages shifts. The stage will shift to different terrains such as Electric, Fire, Wind, and Ice.

There's a new feature called My Music, located within the Options, which will give players the ability to choose music, and the probability of the song playing, in each stage. The songs range from previous Mario and Zelda games, for example, even "The Dark World" theme from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past [SNES]. To collect these songs, players will find CDs appearing on the stage and they will be added to the My Music roster for future selection. No word on how many songs there will be yet.

Today reveals a new assist trophy which is Muchlax, a pre-evolved form of Snorlax (from Pokemon). Muchlax will appear and will eat up nearby items whether it be a Fireflower, Raygun, Bumper, etc. So if he appears, be quick on grabbing your items before they.. disappear.. \/

More details @ the Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl website: Smash Bros. DOJO!
The game's due out on December 3rd at the end of this year in America.

Tom Morello, lead guitarist of the bands Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, will appear in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, according to a press release from Activision. Morello joins Slash of Guns 'n' Roses and Velvet Revolver, and Bret Michaels of Poison and The Bret Michaels Band, as boss characters in Legends of Rock. Players will perform "Bulls on Parade" alongside Morello once he is defeated.

Guitar Hero III is due out on October 28th, 2007. We'll be rockin' on out just in time for Halloween. Pre-order details in previous Wii News & Updates post.

There have been a few homebrew relating to Winamp such as the ability to use a DS as a control to control Winamp or streaming music to DS.

-------------------

At last, I'd like to announce something very interesting for homebrew users. A new VoIP application has been released for the Nintendo DS called SvSIP. Utilizing three functions of the NDS: Microphone, Sound, and Wi-Fi (and 4th for Touch-Screen if you must), makes it possible for this wonderful piece of homebrew software.

Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 will feature online mode with 32-player.
I remember writing on that months ago since E3 '07.

--------------
Also forgot to add, Nintendo officially announced the Hanabi Festival for the European and Australian Virtual Consoles, which will see never before released PAL versions of games in these regions. Week 1 being Mario week (i.e. Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels was once exclusive only to Japan and USA along with Mario's Super Picross). Next week's Ninja week (with Ninja Gaiden and Ninja JaJaMaru-Kun), and the final week, Sci-Fi week, sees the PAL release of Sin & Punishment and Gradius III.
