heres the first 2 paragraphs of my qualifying paper...which needs to be over 60 pages er so..


Gambling has had a sorted past in the history of mankind. It was considered patriotic for the British to participate in their lottery in the 16th century. In fact their lottery helped fund many projects that benefited all of Britain (Reith, 1999). Monetary reward was not the prime motivation to buy these lottery tickets. Other types of wagering also proliferated around that time. Early critics believed that gambling transformed good hard working men into irrational lazy men. Gambling was seen as a time consuming distraction from the work that these men should be engaged in accordance with the protestant work ethic. Many still continued to gamble even though it was disapproved by many leaders. In time, the early primitive gambling games were modified and replaced with the current games we know today utilizing probability theory. For example, the early game of Even-Odd, in which a gambler wagered on a ball landing on an even or odd number on a wheel, transformed into the more complex game of roulette (Reith, 1999).
With these changing games entrepreneurs seized the opportunity to cash in. They created gambling halls where gamblers could gather and play organized games for a small often hidden fee labeled the house edge. This house edge was guaranteed statistically and so it kept these gambling halls alive. Gambling halls created jobs for a few, however the opposition still saw gambling as an immoral endeavor that should be banned. Legislation was passed many times to regulate and ban gambling from taking place. Regardless of the legal constraints gamblers still found ways to play. Eventually legal restraints on gambling were either lifted or regulated and soon playing games of chance stepped into the realm of leisure activity.

Sure you didn't mean sordid?

'Sorted' just seems like an odd word to describe the history of gambling...or an unnecessary one anyways. It's like saying something has a history that can be considered historically.

i havent even started revising this thing. its months off from that. But now I will stick revision #1 in there.

may or may not be a good example. I did this generic "just google it yourself dipshit" essay in 3 hours, but got an A for it.

With no universally agreed upon solution within the United States to successfully reform the faltering state of education, the knowledge of each graduating American class will continue to fall into the abyss at the hands of the politicians who, themselves, are ignorant and unintelligent representations of their generation's education system.
The life of a teacher is generally filled with shortcomings of more limited budgets and heavy criticism as a result of the smear campaigns run by politicians and major news outlets such as Fox News and the New York Times that put educators at blame. “Estimates of the number of bad teachers range from 5 percent to 18 percent of the 2.6 million total”(Chapman). Educators, in turn, have banded together in placing the blame back on politicians. Chris Whittle, a proponent to the idea that the government is the #1 factor in the deterioration of public school, finds it absurd that in 1991, the Department of Defense “...provided $9.5 billion in development dollars to Boeing and Lockheed Martin – almost 40 times what the federal government spends in education Research & Development on an annual basis” (Whittle 200-203). Since then, the government still continues to provide a dedicated fund to the military with disregard to the importance of any other programs. “President Bush plans to unveil a $2.5 trillion budget... eliminating dozens of politically sensitive domestic programs, including funding for education... while proposing significant increases for the military and international spending, according to White House documents” (Allen).
The cuts in federal spending on education have a direct effect on a student's academic potential. First and foremost are the pathetic salaries of educators who are the recipients of “an average of $41,351 annually” (Moore 122), and a starting teacher's annual salary of “$31, 900 a year” (Moore 122). It is no motivation to stay, perform or excel in the career, as evidenced by the fact that “half of all new teachers quit within 5 years” (Crosby 1). The shortage of teachers wanting to join the force and those that want to get out has led many school districts to outsourcing their efforts. “Chicago recently recruited and hired teachers from twenty-eight foreign countries including China, France, and Hungary” (Moore 122). The environments to teach in have also deteriorated greatly forcing students to use outdated textbooks and tools (Moore), as well as force students into classrooms deemed overcrowded or unsafe (“Archived”). With such a limited budget to build new schools, the growing population of schools has made forced classes to be held in gymnasiums, fields other non-traditional environments (“Healthy”).
The public are led to believe that the blame rests on school administrations that ask for more money based on the performance of the students, as the students who rebel against the school administrations for their policies. The truth is that the blame rests much more heavily on those who oversee the education system as a whole (not addressing individual districts needs) and have the opportunities to directly motivate higher administration to reassess the nation's most pertinent priorities- the politicians. It's not surprising that they continually achieve to fail the People since many of the United States' top officials and representatives are just as unqualified to maintain their position as the educators they are so fond of criticizing. The President, himself, has been quoted with saying to the Yale Class of 2001, “...And to the C students, I say you, too, can be the President of the United States” (Moore 116). The list just goes on and on pertaining to the follies of this C student in his military service, failed corporate record (“Failed”) and the unforgettable moments of unscripted dialog, televised for the world to see. For decades, the US has appointed several US ambassadors to countries they had no understanding of (Moore 116).
The media has also been guilty of hypocrisy in criticizing the ignorant while showcasing their own spectrum of ignorance in economics, foreign policy and even American history. Bill O'Reilly (who hosts an extremely popular prime time show on the infamous Fox News network) has a highlight reel of misrepresented truths and outright lies including:
Claimed Bush didn't oppose 9-11 Commission. (10/21/04)
O'Reilly fabricated "Paris Business Review" as source for success of French boycott. Media Matters for America found no evidence of a publication named "The Paris Business Review." (4/27/04)
O'Reilly tried to "blow off" the argument that wealthy Americans ought to pay more taxes by citing phony statistics about the tax burden the rich currently bear. (6/30/04)
Michael Moore recently lashed on live on CNN for their lies about his movie on health care “Sicko!”, claiming they have a bias to the pharmaceutical companies that pay for positive segments. Perhaps the only conceivable way to save the American Education system to to first put money into the pockets of the media and politicians before they will put money back toward students.
A few thousand dollars from a teacher's union may not be enough to sway a politician towards their cause, at least when compared to the generous lump sums, investment options and corporate seats offered by multi-million dollar companies (Sicko!) such as Pepsi, Coke, Nike and a plethora of others who fight to plaster their names and logos on school equipment. It may also be (and I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist) a plan by the government to make the People so dumb and subservient to authority (ala a flock of sheep the shepherd), They dare not challenge or even have the knowledge to comprehend the loss of rights and the growing Orwellian state where the Patriot Act continues to grow and illegal wiretapping goes as unnoticed as jaywalking. In an America where 29% continue to take sides with a C student(“USA”) who has created international turmoil, New York schools is cutting entire curriculum including history to focus on poor reading and math skills (“New York”), and the O'Reilly Factor remains the “top rated cable news show,” it won't take long for ignorance and stupidity of Americans to believe that “two plus two makes five” (Orwell).

Man, I just don't have the attention span to read long essays anymore... no offense to you guys, I'm sure they are good. But midway through senior year of college, I stopped even reading my own! One draft, and whoosh it was off to the professor! good enough.
