Extremely melodic trance, not for the dancefloor
So I was listening to one of my old sets from a few years ago, and I realized that the style of trance I really like the most is few and far between nowadays. The style is hard to describe, but it's trance that is not made for the dancefloor or sets in a club, other than maybe as a closing track or something. It's more melodic, more made for listening. It usually has long breakdowns and is fairly complex structurally, and is usually gradual/softer in it's transitions. The breakdowns don't just have one or two instruments, but usually have sweeping soundscapes mixed with complex melodies.
Two of the tracks that were in this set that made me think about this, and that I think represent this style are the following:
Plastic Boy - Live another life
Cota - Waiting
Any others like this that people can think of?

Know what you mean man.
Try...
Sonorous - Glass Garden
Bullit - Cried to Dream (Max Graham Mix)
DJ Taucher - Winter Love
Rob Aker - Dad's Home
Rapid Eye - Stealing Beauty (R.E. Mix)
Thrillseekers - New Life
Lange pres. Firewall - Reflections (Lange Remix)
Might not be exactly what you are after, but these are very melodic tracks, and they are the kinda tracks to listen to as appose to go mental to in a club.

He's up to number 9 in the series, and every set is worth downloading. You'll find some real gems in those series if you take a little time to listen and read.

I love everything about it, it's just so chilled and happy.
Sweet bassline too.
Check out Magnat - Do You?
As well for chilled out trance.

What he is saying, which is basically what I've said before, is that melodic trance is highly listenable as it is danceable. I would say most of the tracks listed are both, not totally made for either. That's what I think is nice about trance. Maybe because it focuses more on melody than it does on rhythm? So haha I tried explaining it as I see it.
Anyways these tracks work well IMO...
Midway - Monkey Forest
Mesh - Purple Haze
Hydra - Affinity (Thrillseekers Dub)
Kalafut & Fygle - 3579 KM
Micro de Govia - Voller Sterne (Album Mix)
2 Players - Signet (Leama & Moore Remix)
Leama & Moore - Requiem For A Dream
Solar Stone - Seven Cities (Atlantis Mix), Eastern Sea
Alibi - Eternity (Thrillseekers New Horizon Mix)
Usual Aspect - Mr. Blue (Thrillseekers Remix)
Corderoy - Sweetest Dreams (Ferry Corsten Remix)
stuff like this basically....that relies on melody. Typically stuff on In Trance We Trust, A State of Trance, Armada and Anjunabeats..the labels people love to hate (though a vast majority of melodic trance is released through them).
