ewwww times square!!

What type of fun are you looking for....NYC has so much to do, it would be better to narrow down what you are looking for (club, bar, lounge, what type of music, etc).

If you enjoy architecture like I do then go to the Manhattan part of nyc. Particularly the midtown to downton areas. Uptown is brick apartment buildings and not much to see except daily city life where i used to live. Here's a sneak peek: link. Click on any of the sticky threads for a look.

Clubs: I asked about this in another thread and this site is pretty good www.clubplanet.com

Like animals? Hit the Bronx zoo. It's the largest zoo in the U.S. Many people take it for granted, but it's a good time. Admission is 14 bucs.

More of a garden type of guy then stroll on over to the Brooklyn botanical gardens. They have a wide variety of plants which blossom beautifully depending on which season you come in.

Feel like brushing up on your history or want an art lesson or two then go to the American Museum of Natural History and the MET (aka Metropolitan Museum of Art) both located in Manhattan and if I remember correctly they're both within walking distance of each other.

If you like ice skating then the Rockeffeller plaza is the best place to do so, home of the NBC news headquarters also located in manhattan. Hopefully they've iced the floor down.

Parks: There are a ton of parks throughout the NYC area. The most famous is undoubtedly Central Park which is also the largest in the city and Riverbank State park, Fort Tryon Park (a former revolutionary war fort), and so much more.

Shopping: The possibilitie are endless. Queens had this multilevel shopping center. I don't know if it's still there but ask around.

You could tell I'm excited to come back if even for a vacation. Can't wait for my turn.

Just put it this way, you can come to NYC with no plans and you won't have enough time to do everything you want.

The nyc club scene is predominately hip hop and house music. Pacha is the club that draws the big names, webster hall is taking away some of that talent, and there are some smaller clubs all over the place. Another big club is supposed to open soon, so that may be an option when you visit (called mansion). just search around NYC section and you'll pick up on the spots.

As for bars, there are tons. Manhattan must have a bar on every block. Just walk into any hole and i'm sure you'll have a blast. If you're into the college age bar scene, travel down to washington square park and find one of the many bars in the area. The lower east side (by orchard street) has some great little bars/lounges that cater to the young professional types and college age crowds.

as for other entertainment, go to one of the museums, the Met, MoMa, museum of natural history, the gugenheim, or one of the other smaller museums.

There are obviously many broadway shows. i would definitely suggest seeing one of them.

i know this really wasn't overly helpful, but you will find something you like in the city relatively quickly. i wouldn't worry about not knowing any of the spots before your journey.

OK, most of the rest of your advice was pretty good, but this part... (at least the NY section)

My word of advice as a fellow tourist is try and shop and sight see at the same time. Walk from area to area if you can. I found that just trying to ram in shopping all in one day was pointless and not very fun. The days we strolled from Canal street through SOHO, etc were an absolute blast and we got tons of fab stuff.

Do the hop-on/hop-off one day city tour, go to Chinatown, Little Italy, Union Square Park, East Village, West Village.

For big night club scenes, so far Pacha is the only good one, recently Webster Hall. But for that weekend nothing much going on. I will most likely end up at Love Fest@Cali that weekend...

^^lol it sucks that you are coming on the only weekend in months that there are no big parties. I would check out the party planner for edm-events.

Kelly..When people mention spectacular New York landmarks I always think of you....You definitely beat Lady Liberty and The Empire State Building into 3rd and 4th place....
