FW was ridiculously empty that night but thanks for the suggestion. Truth of the matter is that I have a crappy 18-55 mm lens, f3.5 that's not very practical with what I really want to get in clubs, I always have to focus manually with this lens. the 50 mm f1.4 won't help me much either because its manual.
A good and logical upgrade would be a 28-70mm f/2.8D like this one here, wider lens=more light gets in (77mm vs 52mm ), so I can make out things better instead of just guessing at it.
I'll get that when I finally have more time (other than once a week) to dedicate myself to photography and learning how to get shoot from the best angle with the perfect timing to get the best of things happening at these great events/venues.

You're right, just got home from work and checked the settings on it as I left them, compensation was low; I had done some nature shots the week before where I wanted to darken my shots a bit. I forgot about it and nor did it cross my mind to look into it that night, I guess that's where the actual experience kicks in.
Re: the usage of the flash
I used one, not the built-in; one that I have purchased earlier in the day because I knew how terrible is to take pictures at that place and I really wanted to go to this event. I should've gone through the booklet that came with it quickly to figure out how to work with it to improve the lighting.
your advice/feedback is kindly appreciated, I admit that this is not the best of my photography as I don't usually take shots in dark places but I'm open to suggestions.
