hey quick noob question.


is it possible to record a melody on fm8 as a stand alone player?
or do i have to use it as a vst on another program to use that function.

FM8 should be able to be installed as a stand-alone application, i believe. You should just have to turn on the your midi input source.

(I'm not totally sure about this one as I don't use FM8, but I know you can do this with other NI vsti's.)

Akoustic piano can do standalone recording (very basic) so can absynth. FM8 can't really, but you could program notes into the arpegiator to get a similar effect maybe.
