hum with dynaudio monitors

Hello

I've recently bought new studio monitors - dynaudio bm5a with rme fireface 400 audio interface.

The problem I'm facing with is that they play really quiet, almost unnoticable noise - buzz (hum).. If I dont play the music the hum is present.

Whether I try to unplug the monitors from the audio interface I can still hear the hum.

I read somewhere I should try to move them (to increase the distance betwen electronic equipment), however this does not help..

I also tried emailing dynaudio company but they didnt respond..

Anyone has any similar experience and knows what could be the cause of this?

Thanks a lot for help

Grounded cables? I use cables that came along my monitors and normal xlr to connect monitors with audio interface but xlr has nothing to do with it since nothing changes if I unplug them from audio interface.

And yes, the monitors stand really near my laptop.

Surely those monitors are magnetically shielded? They should not be making any kind of unwanted hum no matter how close they are to the laptop. Are you using an external amp?

Strange, I don't remember ever hearing something like that from mine. Mine are like 15cm either side from my laptop (A Dell XPS).

I'll switch em on tomorrow and see if I get the same hum.

Even if I unplug the laptop or move it from the desk (or even turn it off) I can stil hear the hum..

I guess it has nothing to do with laptop then..

Another thing I noticed is if I turn on/off my lava lamp, I can hear some sound in my monitors (something like "pluk")..

Thats really strange..

Lights with a fader/dimmer switch can also cause distortion in the power which then causes a hum in your speakers.

I have it when my parents turn the lights on downstairs. When dimmed the distortion is there, when the lights are put at maximum it's gone.

Other than that it could just be bad wiring in the house. Or too thin/cheap audio cables which aren't shielded (maybe lying next to an electric object too close?)

Ah actually mine do this too but it's barely noticeable. Is your's really loud?

Mine are only plugged into the power and when I turn them on and put my ear right next to the tweeter I can hear a hum but I don't think that's abnormal. It's a machine. Machines make noise. You can't expect it to be completely silent.

The dimmer we have downstairs is of bad quality, my speakers are on the smae power group .

It's not really loud or anything but it's there and easily noticable.
